“#purpose and #reason equals #meaningful and #practical solutions…” Thats what I shared at the University of Northampton’s Sustainabilty Summit 2024 after a couple days of discussions and talks. Lemonpop Workshops attended the event to explore and learn how we can share or add #value and #impact on some of the topics from a creative arts engagement and participation perspective. It was great to meet people from different industries… who have different methods of implementing sustainability within their fields…as it means so many different things to each industry or individual… At Lemonpop we focus on the individual experience… the value and the impact it has on the individual lifestyles or smaller communities that are not necessarily represented in the broader discussions… so it was great to share perspectives… I look to see the outcomes from the Summit and hopefully attend next year. Who are you? What does #sustainability mean to you?

🌍 Embracing the role in sustainability during Sustainability Month 2024 🌱 As I step into the role in Sustainability, I'm filled with a renewed sense of purpose and determination to keep pushing forward in our journey toward a more sustainable future. I’m energized by the responsibility and opportunity to make a meaningful impact. This October, in honor of Sustainability Month, I'm reflecting on the need to integrate sustainable practices at every level of our organization and industry. Working in this field has shown me that sustainability isn't just about policies or pledges- its about the choices we make each day, both individually & collectively, to protect our planet for future generations. Sustainability is no longer a "nice-to-have"—it’s essential. For me, this journey is about going beyond compliance; it’s about creating long-term value, building resilience, and driving innovation. 🍃 On this sustainability month, I encourage us all to: 🍀 Embrace challenge- be open to adopting more sustainable practices in our personal & professional lives. 🍀 Collaborate- True impact comes when we work together, sharing insights & innovations 🍀 Hold ourselves accountable- Progress happens when we track our goals and challenge ourselves to keep improving. I'm proud to be part of movement. Let’s create change together—for people, for the planet, and for future generations. 🌱 #SustainabilityMonth #SustainableFuture #ClimateAction #Innovation

Happy to had the chance to share part of Euromonitor International´s Consumer Survey results around second-hand shopping with Retail Asia. Here are some interesting findings: 💰 Economic pressures are pushing consumers towards value-for-money purchases, with the secondhand market providing the perfect solution. 📈 Nearly 40% of consumers in emerging markets like India, China, and Thailand are opting for preloved purchases every few months, driven by both financial considerations and a growing awareness of sustainability. ♻ Generational differences are playing a pivotal role in this trend. Gen Z is leading with 42% buying secondhand items regularly, viewing it as a stylish and sustainable lifestyle choice 🌱. 💸 Millennials, the 'Green Spenders,' are showing their commitment to eco-friendly products by being willing to pay more. 💡 Retailers are adapting by forming strategic partnerships with secondhand platforms, leveraging digitalisation, and innovating in-store to meet this growing demand 🤝. The secondhand market is not just limited to economic pressures; it's a reflection of a shifting consumer mindset towards sustainable living. With younger generations leading the charge, this is a trend that's set to grow 🚀 #SecondhandMarket #SustainableLiving #MarketTrends"
A quarter of global consumers choose secondhand products for sustainability, fueling a surge in the market, says Jorge Zuniga Gomez, Senior Sustainability Insights Consultant at Euromonitor International. https://bit.ly/3Jnunwx

🚂 Is sustainability losing steam? Last week, members of The Conference Board Asia Sustainability Leaders Council met to discuss this big question. From major companies seemingly rolling back sustainability commitments, to the onslaught of green hushing, to backlash in places like the US towards anything ESG, it seems we're in a bit of trouble. 👉 If you read anything, read this 👈 Sustainability isn’t losing steam, but it is going through a transition. Until recently, sustainability was largely the remit of communications and public affairs teams. Work was also highly centralised. This led, in some ways, to a strong communication of sustainability initiatives, goals, and ambitions, regardless of whether these were attainable or not. In essence, there was more work happening communicating sustainability than perhaps doing the actual work. Today, sustainability work is much more spread across various parts of an organisation. It is no longer a standalone objective, but integrated into how work is being done. The negative impact, and why there are perceptions of sustainability losing steam, is that sustainability has moved from communicating intent to doing the work. Much more is happening behind the scenes, but the general public may not be privy to it. Members also argued that sustainability isn’t waning in importance. The entire practice is coming to terms with what it can actually achieve. As my former BSR colleague Alison Taylor once said (and I paraphrase), "how could we expect companies that make detergent and mayonnaise to save the planet?" Versus objectives driven by communication teams, as was done in the past, today there are experts and practitioners widely setting the standards of what’s possible. What is being perceived as a scaling back of commitments is actually more about recalibrating things to reality. There's still plenty of work to do (and job security for us all). Sustainability is evolving, as it always has, into a new era. I, for one, am excited to see what's next. #sustainability #greenwashing

We’re thrilled to announce our 2024 Sustainability Report. As a leader in our industry, we recognize the importance of contributing to a sustainable future. To ensure we’re making the biggest impact, we’ve implemented the following key priorities: 1. Encouraging our employees to carpool by only providing one parking spot per location for employees. Walking builds character and endurance! 2. Switching to eco-friendly light bulbs in all locations, except the ones that stay open 24/7. At those locations we opted to remove the bulbs from the back and sides of our building to save energy, because honestly, what are you all even doing back there? 3. Building a beehive for every 20,000 cigarettes or vape cartridges sold. And unlike last year, we won’t revoke the credit if it turns out they were sold to underage youths. That’s between them and their parents, and the accounting was a nightmare. 4. If you come around store 237, Helen has agreed to bring in a couple of her small plants to help make the air feel a little cleaner in the store. It’s a small step, but every leaf counts!
We are pleased to share our 2024 Sustainability Report. As an industry leader in convenience and mobility, we fully acknowledge our responsibility to be part of the solution for a more sustainable future and an essential cornerstone to our communities. As a responsible retailer, we will continue to focus and deliver on our key sustainability priorities where we can have the most positive and lasting impact. Driving sustainability through innovation. That summarizes the Avery Dennison mindset. Our focus is on three interconnected areas: -We drive innovation through products and solutions that help reduce carbon footprint and advance the circular economy. -We lower our environmental impact through responsible sourcing and production. -We advance livelihoods for people and communities in our global value chain. These areas sit at the intersection of our stakeholders’ primary sustainability concerns and our company’s greatest opportunities to effect change at scale. In the first few months as head of enterprise sustainability, I’ve met with colleagues and partners around the world. Our collective passion and drive to embed sustainability in all we do is palpable. Find out more about our 2030 Sustainability goals here: https://lnkd.in/e-RrHa-D #Sustainability #ReduceWaste
