For 1st/2nd Gens, what actions and/or inactions around accessing medical care (or any care) that COULD be perceived as resistance, non-compliance or apathy may actually be rooted in lack of support, lack of access (e.g. cultural, language barriers), fear, intergenerational trauma, limited information around certain options, etc. It's so important to look BEYOND our skin (name of the conference) and BEYOND the surface, the immediate actions to help improve 1st and 2nd generation's access to care. When I get to speak in front of professionals about how Intergenerational Trauma and being in The Repay Cycle™, can show up in different ways for 1st/2nd Gens it makes me excited. I am excited to see what we can do to create impact on large and small scales. It was such a great experience discussing ways to strengthen how we can take care of 1st/2nd gens through different lens, and to connect with such great folks with a desire to help others. Thank you @minorityhealthconference for letting me share this amazing space and for such great discussion. If there was one over-riding take-away from this clinical trial, it was feeling that I needed to integrate my experience not only psychologically/therapeutically, but spiritually/mystically as well. Read more 👉 https://lttr.ai/AVygR #LSD #Psychedelics #Mysticism

To practice shame-sensitive medicine is to inherently practice within a trauma-informed capacity. Shame has no space in healing. It has no place in our profession. It has no place in medical culture. Let us break down the conspiracy of silence around shame and foster the antidotes. Foster compassion. Foster empathy. Than foster connections that are supportive rather than competitive or punitive. Shame-sensitive, anti-shame practice starts with us. -- If you want to learn more about shame-sensitive practice, this theme runs through my body of work. The gap between deficiency state-observational research and interventional research is a huge problem for clinicians. This month in the Stacks, I have an article about the difficulty of examining research on iron deficiency anemia. Most observational studies show increased risks, including mental health diagnoses, in patients who have iron deficiency. Yet, the number of intervention trials using iron to solve mental health symptoms is almost nonexistent. Of course, we aren't going to let your patients walk around deficient, but how can we be confident that fixing a deficiency will lead to any clinically meaningful outcome when we never study it? You can get a free reader account to The Stacks, which gives you research and opinion articles for integrative clinicians to help you stay up to date and keep you on your toes. https://lnkd.in/gF36uPg6

Coma, Minimally Conscious State, Prolonged Disorder of Consciousness. Are you, family or friends affected? Do you work in this area? Treatment in this area seems difficult and to pull in different directions. Fragmented and hierarchical medical teams determine treatment. Research and received knowledge is contradictory. The experience of families and friends is often ignored. I intend to set up a campaign group to: 1. Push for more research in this important area; 2. Emphasise the need for a hub of knowledge and support for patients, families and clinicians; 3. Insist on the need for better integrated medical and social care to better meet the needs of these patients. Direct message me to be informed and involved when social media and website channels are live.

A new blog post is up! It's called "Choosing the Right Therapist," and it's all about how to identify a good therapeutic match for anyone interested in starting therapy. It draws from published research and practical advice from both a recipient and provider of therapy, but it's written with accessibility in mind. Vulnerability is a powerful force in both medicine life. Vulnerability isn't just for our patients—it's for all of us. It's through vulnerability that connections are formed, understanding is deepened, and healing becomes possible. As medical professionals, we can learn from our patients' courage in embracing vulnerability. It's time to shift the narrative and recognise that vulnerability is not a weakness but a source of strength. By embracing our vulnerability, we not only connect more deeply in our personal lives but also cultivate a more compassionate and empathetic approach to medicine. Let's embrace vulnerability as a pathway to healing and growth. #vulnerability #doctorwellbeing #selfcarejourney #personalgrowthanddevelopment
