In my opinion, it's essential to know the orders of magnitude of impacts. I'd like organizations to understand what is really impactful and what is less. That's the kind of thinking I want to instill in the participants. What is the most surprising piece of news that you got recently about Green IT? Laure de La Raudiere, President of the French Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (Arcep), recently delivered an engaging and lucid speech on sustainable IT, which I believe is reshaping Arcep's DNA. The institution, which has historically encouraged the development of competition and innovation, asserts that sustainable IT is not just IT for Green, and, I quote: “I am convinced that these solutions will not be enough”. I have been helping IT teams decreasing their carbon footprint for several years now, and I find that the most difficult thing to do is not the evaluation of IT environmental impacts, but the tangible implementation of sustainable tech patterns, on real projects. So I found it very exciting - and a real chance for me - to join the jury and see how sustainability in IT can be achieved in many different ways. Can you share one of the key messages that you would like  participants to get from the challenge? There is a huge step between "sustainability awareness" in IT, and sustainability at scale in companies. The challenge is a way to show that with the right team and governance, a lot can be achieved. This should be used as a lighthouse for the rest of the companies, to help them understand the value of shared responsibilities along the IT value chain. What is the most surprising piece of news that you got recently about Green IT? It surprises me that a tool like chatgpt at scale can have so many environmental impacts, while being so widely-used in the society. Considering joining? Gaël deserves the credit for reaching out, though as the co-chair of a W3C Community Group dedicated to Web sustainability, I'm naturally very keen to spread the word about our work which could have global importance in the future. 2. Can you share one of the key messages that people will get from your talk? Everyone is looking for solutions to the climate crisis, and as the tech industry is a significant contributor to the problem we need to be actively involved in the process. Hopefully, work like the Web Sustainability Guidelines can be part of this effort to allow citizens and businesses to take control of their impact. 3. What is the most surprising word that you will use in your speech? People. Sustainability isn't just about the planet, it's about scoping for people as well because ultimately they can have an impact on the ecosystem. Everyone focuses on the E (environment) in ESG they can easily forget about the social and governance (economic) factors that can impact and trigger emissions. Considering joining? At Cambridge University Press & Assessment we are passionate about becoming a more sustainable business and embedding sustainability across everything we do, and that includes our digital workflows and products. We have seen a big shift from print to digital in the publishing, academic and education space where we operate and to allow us to reach our carbon goals we are being proactive about implementing digital sustainability practices across our technology and product teams and calculating our digital product carbon footprint. We wanted to be able to share how we've started this journey with others at Green IO showing how starting small can have a big impact. 2. When you are a global company with global customers you have to be aware of the wider impact of your product and sustainability choices. 3.
