The budget was a talking point amongst the farming community before it was even delivered but new changes to inheritance tax rules have potential to be devastating for many of our customers - some of whom have been with us for years. As the dust settles on the announcement, set to affect around 70,000 farming businesses, The CLA has said "it is time to take action" and it has since been reported that farmers will descend on London to protest later this month. We support farmers in making their voice heard. #Autumnbudget #Farming #Inheritancetax #BackBritishFarming https://lnkd.in/e3fWh3th

The ongoing row over inheritance tax in the farming sector is heating up. With the proposed changes to Agricultural Property Relief (APR), farmers face a potential 20% inheritance tax on agricultural assets exceeding £1 million. This could have a significant impact on family farms, with many fearing they may be forced to sell land to cover the tax bill. While the government argues the policy is necessary for funding public services, many in the farming community see it as a direct threat to their livelihoods and the future of UK agriculture. 🚨 Farmers Alert! 🚜 The Grain Growers of Canada warn that PM Trudeau's proposed capital gains tax hike could harm family farms and retirement plans. The tax increase, which raises the inclusion rate from 50% to 66% for gains over $250,000, complicates farm transfers and threatens the viability of family farms, favoring corporate entities over family-owned farms. They urge for exemptions on intergenerational transfers to preserve the future of family farming! ℹ️ Source of Information 👇 https://lnkd.in/eCy_z5wD #Farming #Agriculture #TaxReform #FamilyFarms #RetirementPlanning #CapitalGainsTax #GrainGrowers #AgricultureCanada #FarmTransfers #TaxHike #CanadianFarming #FamilyOwnedFarms #FarmSuccession #TaxExemptions #SaveFamilyFarms #DailyNews #DailyPost

FARMERS CAMPAIGNING FOR AGRICULTURAL PROPERTY RETHINK The announcement in the Autumn Budget about restrictions to inheritance tax (IHT) agricultural and business property relief from April 2026 has upset farming businesses in particular, resulting in a demonstration in London on 19th November. From 6 April 2026, it is proposed that 100% relief will only apply to the first £1 million of combined agricultural and business property, with the relief reducing to 50% on the value that exceeds £1 million. This means the relief will be focused on small family farms and businesses. Prime agricultural land prices currently exceed £10,000 an acre and with the cost of a new combine harvester approaching £1 million, many farming businesses will significantly exceed the proposed £1 million threshold. At £10,000 an acre, that means the £1 million threshold would be exceeded by a 100 acre farm so paying the IHT may mean selling off some of that land and threatening the viability of the business. It should be noted that the IHT in respect of agricultural property and business assets can be paid to HMRC by 10 interest-free installments but those may be difficult to pay without selling off assets. #InheritanceTax #FarmersInheritanceTax #accountants #CloudAccountants #TheCloudAccountants #SmallBusinessAccountants #AdamFenandes
