Working with companies to support their employees to develop the skills needed to manage their wellbeing better, so that they can feel their best, and stay engaged & productive to do their work. 🔹 The S.E.N.S.E Model™️
Asking for help is one of the seven main areas to support our emotional wellbeing. And! To support our emotional wellbeing is the most important component to support our mental health. But why is asking for help so hard? Because it makes us feel vulnerable. All sorts of feelings can come up when we need help - shame that we may not be good enough, or not capable enough and this is why we need help - guilt that we want to use other people’s time and attention - fear that we may not deserve the help - fear that we will be seen weak or incompetent - fear that we cannot stay in control So as Simon Sinek points it out, asking for help is indeed an act of service because we allow our loved ones to support us, and they don’t want anything more than to do that. However, in order to ask for help, very often, we first have to overcome these underlying emotions that we may attach to asking for help. These can often be below our conscious awareness. It is often a learnt pattern throughout many generations. I first heard of this idea of asking for help in 2013, till then it wasn’t a conscious concept in my head at all. So if you feel asking for help doesn’t come so easily to you, it’s ok. It’s a journey to get there and it takes practice. I am much better at it now, and I can tell you, I am still peeling layers of this onion because depending on the issue, and the people I need to turn to, stuff can still come up and I can feel my heart in my throat. But I also have the experience of how it feels to take that step and get help. I can say with 100% confidence that it’s worth step into this vulnerability of asking for help.
