The SoS letter to the Mayor of London last week, withdrawing the previous direction of 18 March 2024, means there will now be a broader review of the London Plan, which seems like a sensible approach. It’s encouraging to see that a review of industrial land and Opportunity Area policies will be part of this process. As mentioned in the Herald-Sun today, there are a raft of reforms needed, including urgently addressing delays in progressing PSPs, and delays in getting to permit stage. Our industry kept the lights on during the pandemic, and now it needs support to get the next wave of housing development out of the ground. We remain committed to working with all stakeholders to improve affordability and to get industry back to doing what it does best - delivering homes and communities for Victorians. The Government is not pulling every lever, here are five that need urgent attention:

🏘️ **PROGRAMME FOR THE EU: Opinion from the Committee of the Regions** On April 17, during its plenary session, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) adopted an opinion calling for the launch of a housing program for the EU. This opinion aims to better coordinate housing and transportation policies, strengthen financial support for social, private, cooperative, and public housing initiatives, and increase the renovation rate of residential buildings. Local and regional authorities also seek increased support to protect urban centers from excessive "touristification," thereby preserving the quality of life in neighborhoods. Inner West Council is using heritage policy as an excuse to push housing away from its most advantaged suburbs. Highlighted in yellow are the stations earmarked for more density, 4 of the bottom 5 when sorted by SEIFA disadvantage. Places like Marrickville and Ashfield are objectively great places to live and would be even better with more people, but this demonstrates that planning reinforces inequity not just between councils (where targets are lower in the east) but within them as well. The Fixing Country Bridges Program provided Lithgow City Council with funding to replace three bridges along Glen Davis Road, which connects a key tourist area and local community, Capertee, to Lithgow. The replacement bridges now mean more reliable trips for the Capertee community into Lithgow. Glen Davis Road is the main way in and out, and in emergency scenarios such as during natural disasters like fire, means residents and tourists can now safely rely on these bridges for access. The Fixing Country Bridges Program have also allocated funding for Charles Street and Red Hill Road Bridges in Lithgow LGA, set to open to traffic by mid-2024. We spoke with Council, a local resident, and local Rural Fire Service Captain about the benefits of these bridges. Check out what they had to say below.
