Pocket Pair Games released a dev story talking about Palworld. You can find this dev story here: https://lnkd.in/gABbR-_C There is something insanely inspiring about the mentality shared by the developers of Lethal Company and Palworld as well as Thor from PirateSoftware. All of them share the mentality of "just make things". A sort of "just do it" mentality. Regarding the Lethal Company and Palworld devs, they discuss their lack of experience. Zeekers (Lethal Company) had noted that this was their first multiplayer game on Unity and just wanted to create something fun. Palworld devs seem to have consistently expressed that they have never made something of this scale and even in the dev story discussed a similar sense of worry about different aspects of the game. And yet, they share the same outcome. A heavily popular and well received game that came out as a result of the mentality to just make things and do it. Thor from Pirate Software also discussed the importance of just making things. The idea that everyone starts somewhere. As Thor points out, Scott Cawthon, creator of Five Nights at Freddy's, had made a ton of games prior to creating his successful franchise and many of those games were not largely successful. I vaguely remember that Scott Cawthon mentioned considering giving up on game development when he released Five Nights at Freddy's, just due to the lack of general success. It's weird because it's not like this is a new concept to me. The sort of "just do it" and "just make things" mentality was not really a foreign idea, but seeing it applied in this way and on a category that I regularly engage with, hits differently than your general "just do it" motivational speeches. The combination of these recent events has started to encourage me personally and I just felt like their stories and motivations are worth sharing. If you have an idea, make it, just do it. Who knows, maybe you had a great idea. Nobody knows until you try.

A controversy has arisen over a forthcoming game by the French company Ubisoft, titled "Assassin's Creed Shadows," which features a Black samurai named Yasuke, who served Oda Nobunaga. The game, set to be released in November, has sparked debates on social media about the historical accuracy of Yasuke's portrayal as a samurai, with many questioning whether he was indeed a samurai. The political party "The Party to Protect the People from NHK" (NHK kara Kokumin wo Mamoru To) and its member, Satoshi Hamada, have asked the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for their opinion on the matter. The ministry responded by stating that "careful consideration is required if there are concerns about content that may violate public order and morals." This response was made public by Hamada’s secretary. Concerns have also been raised about the depiction of historical events and the influence of games on children. The game has been criticized for potentially spreading "pseudo-history," particularly referencing a 2019 book by Thomas Lockley（English), an associate professor at Nihon University, which suggested that the use of African slaves became fashionable in Japan during the Sengoku period. This claim has been widely disputed. In response to the controversy, Ubisoft released a statement on the 23rd, explaining that while the game is inspired by real historical events and figures, it is ultimately a work of fiction. They emphasized their respect for concerns about historical and cultural accuracy and apologized for any distress caused. Relevant ministries also provided their perspectives: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the game does not relate to diplomacy, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry refrained from commenting on individual games. https://lnkd.in/gCRNnrKK
