The #ColoradoRiver is shared among seven US states, two Mexican states, and 30 Native American tribes, providing water for more than 35 million people and supporting farms, cities, and ecosystems. However, overallocation and #ClimateChange have led to an increasing water deficit. Action is needed from private, public, and philanthropic sectors to ensure #WaterResilience. The Pacific Institute is working to advance #CorporateWaterStewardship in the Basin by demonstrating the need and potential for CWS, driving greater alignment between all sectors, and highlighting and helping to scale good practices. Community Development Specialist for Engagement Strategies and Enhancing Local Actions towards Achieving the SDGs
https://lnkd.in/eeSHe2d3 The story around sustainable development and transformation is best told by project beneficiaries. - There is no greater act than that of a people transforming their own realities, from a development investment. - There is no greater voice than that of a beneficiary, positively impacted by the volunteerism of a neighbour. At WRS, we believe that our success is intrinsically linked to the well-being of the environment and the communities we operate in. This commitment drives our comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, focused on three key pillars: Environmental Sustainability: We actively reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through initiatives like emPOWERing Africa (expanding renewable energy access) and improved cookstoves in Uganda (combating deforestation). Employee Well-being: We foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that prioritises employee well-being and empowers our people to excel. Community Engagement: We actively engage with the communities we touch, supporting them through fundraising, volunteering, and raising awareness for important causes. ICYMI: Great piece by Environment Funders Canada. It explains the Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) model, highlighting its appeal as a conservation finance instrument that is Indigenous-designed and led, and therefore upholds Indigenous rights and governance. PFPs are more than a means to deliver durable conservation outcomes; they are "an investment in community health and well-being, food security, language and cultural revitalization...and sustainable economic development". 💡 Did you know over 10 EFC members have pledged, granted, or are contemplating grants between $50,000 and $10M to one or more of the four new PFPs? Yet, there is still room to crowd in additional capital from the philanthropic and private sectors in support of visions set out in these PFP. Philanthropic funding can indeed be catalytic, and blended finance approaches can ensure long-term funding for the management and stewardship of these vast lands.
THIS is the type of leadership Canada can show globally on conservation finance. 👇 Canada is on track to be the first country in the world with five Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) initiatives. As this Environment Funders Canada interview articulates, "A PFP is an innovative conservation investment model for securing major commitments from myriad rights holders and stakeholders – including all levels of government, communities, funders, and other partners – to ensure conservation areas are well-managed, sustainably financed, and benefit the communities who depend on them." Here are Canada’s five PFPs (including those in development): 🌲The Great Bear Rainforest PFP 🌲The Great Bear Sea PFP 🌲The Northwest Territories PFP 🌲The Qikiqtani PFP 🌲The Omushkego Wahkohtowin PFP Philanthropy is playing an important role in helping finance the establishment of PFPs in Canada, and philanthropic organizations are supporting Indigenous leaders in their extensive negotiations with other levels of governments. Restoration of Forest Ecosystems is equally considered as a nature-based solution to address environmental challenges communities are facing today in Zambia. Healthy ecosystems, such as forests, wetlands, and grassland play a pivotal role in sequestering carbon, mitigating climate change impacts. At Climate Protection Zambia, we thrive to engage interested partners and stakeholders to join us in the efforts to renewing degraded ecosystems, enhancing their resilience and maximizing ecosystem services for community co-benefits.
Climate Protection Zambia (CPZ) is an independent local non-profit organization working to support effective practical actions and sustainable policies for low carbon climate resilient development pathways. We support effective actions, policies and scientific research for low carbon climate resilient development pathways to sustain human and ecosystems resilience in the face of climate change and strengthen an ecologically healthy relationship between nature and communities.
