In most areas of society today, visually ‘attractive’ images (uplifting, shocking, emotionally stimulating, egotistically seductive, etc.) are presented by both professionals and ‘lay persons’ in an attempt to distil a very complex issue down to a focused and accessible concept. This image could meet many of the ‘attractiveness’ criteria...but IMAGINE if that young polar bear was a child sleeping rough on a cardboard box in New York? The image for me represents sadness for the vast majority of human kind, the animal kingdom and the unprecedented environmental destruction. That destruction is being casually and selfishly inflicted by 1% of the population upon the other 99%…and upon OUR future ‘innocent’ generations. We all know that fossil fuel is what’s accelerating the cause of the #climatecrisis…and we all know that it’s the #BigOil cartel - supported by their ‘sponsored’ #politicians who are the true villains. So…if ‘We The People’ who own the privilege of a VOTE can’t be bothered to tell our #politicians and Corporations (that we have shares in) to immediately stop…and not support, the toxic and corrupt behaviour of #BigOil - then our children and grandchildren won’t see any images of sleeping polar bears in their natural habitat…or anywhere for that matter.

As campaigners, we know that sometimes, all it takes is one powerful image to change the course of history. In the 70s, Greenpeace launched a series of photographs known as "mindbombs" that did just that. These images of whale hunts exposed the violent reality of commercial whaling, which created a wave of public outrage that helped move global attitudes towards this practice. Its a good reminder for anyone working in behaviour change or strat comms that storytelling through imagery can be a game-changer, rather than overwhelming audiences with stats or complex arguments; sometimes, a single well-timed image can make the invisible very hard to ignore. https://lnkd.in/euyTidYN #Campaigning #Advocacy #Storytelling #BehaviourChange

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐠𝐞: 𝐀 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 The 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐠𝐞 (𝐀𝐍𝐖𝐑) is 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚’𝐬 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝, spanning over 19 million acres in northeastern Alaska. This pristine wilderness is home to more than 𝟕𝟎𝟎 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬, including iconic wildlife such as 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 🐻❄️, 𝐰𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 🐺, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐦𝐲𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐝𝐬 🦅. It is also a vital cultural and subsistence area for 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧̃𝐮𝐩𝐢𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐰𝐢𝐜𝐡’𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬. However, the future of this unique ecosystem is under threat. Project 2025 calls for the reinstatement of 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝟑𝟑𝟓𝟐, which would open up parts of the refuge to oil and gas exploration. This move could have devastating impacts on the wildlife and the indigenous communities that depend on this land. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐠𝐞 is crucial for preserving its unparalleled biodiversity and cultural heritage.
