Michael Harvey's quote, "A bad pencil is better than a good memory," emphasizes the importance of documentation over relying solely on memory. Human memory is prone to errors and alterations, making it crucial to write things down. Even a simple note, scribbled with a "bad pencil," can protect vital information against memory's impermanence. Documentation serves as a reliable external memory aid, preserving thoughts, ideas, and commitments. In professional environments, this practice ensures clarity, accountability, and continuity. Embracing imperfect documentation is essential, as even flawed notes are more valuable than relying on memory alone. Imperfect notes act as a starting point, leading us back to original ideas and aiding comprehension. In education, students benefit greatly from taking notes during lectures, regardless of completeness or neatness. These notes function as valuable study aids, reinforcing learning and improving recall during exams. Embracing the imperfect documentation process with a "bad pencil" can significantly enhance learning outcomes and memory retention.

This caption emphasizes the fundamental importance of literacy as a civil right by highlighting the disparity in access to quality reading instruction. It stresses that every child, regardless of their location or background, deserves the opportunity to learn to read effectively. However, it points out the alarming reality that many teacher training programs and literacy curriculums do not align with decades of scientific research on how the brain learns to read. This misalignment hampers students' reading progress and perpetuates inequality in education. The caption underscores the critical role of school leaders in ensuring that instructional practices are informed by research-backed methods. It emphasizes that without a deep understanding of evidence-based approaches to literacy instruction, educators are essentially navigating blindfolded, which ultimately hinders students' learning outcomes. #LiteracyForAll #EducationEquity #ScienceOfReading #TeacherTraining #EvidenceBasedLearning #ReadingInstruction #EducationalLeadership #StudentSuccess #ClosingTheGap #QualityEducation #LiteracyMatters #EducationResearch #InclusiveEducation #ReadingSkills #UnlockingPotential #LearningScience #EducatorDevelopment #EducationalEquity #ReadingGrowth #EmpoweringEducators
67% of 4th graders in the US read below grade level & it's time to change that! I empower schools, districts, and states to help EVERY child learn to read the brain-friendly, research-based way. Take my free training:
Every child, in every zip code deserves the chance to read. But unfortunately, most teacher training programs and literacy curriculums are *not* actually based on the 70+ years of research pinpointing how brains learn. That's why it's so important that school leaders who make decisions about instructional practice and are responsible for evaluating teachers' performance understand what that research says... Without knowing what best practice looks like, you're throwing darts at a target blindfolded. Knowledge is essential for improving students' reading growth. That's why I created a free 30-minute training called "Science of Reading for Administrators" that cuts away the fluff and hands over the absolute must-know essentials. Whether you're brand new to the science of reading & want to learn more... Or you're unhappy with your students' reading growth data & need a solution that will fix it... This training will help. ICQs, or Instruction Checking , are a valuable tool for teachers to ensure students understand the task at hand. 📔 What are ICQs? ICQs are short, focused questions that check if students grasp the instructions you've provided. They typically require a simple answer like "yes" or "no" or a brief response that confirms understanding. 📃 How to use ICQs: 1️⃣After giving instructions: Pose a few ICQs to check their comprehension. 2️⃣Focus on key points: Target the most important aspects of the task, like the purpose, steps, or expected outcome. 3️⃣Keep it simple: Use clear and concise language for the ICQs themselves. 4️⃣Variety is key: Use different question formats (e.g., true/false, yes/no, Wh- questions) to keep students engaged. 5️⃣Listen actively: Pay attention to student responses and address any confusion before moving on. 📄 Example: Instruction: "Today, you'll be working in pairs to write a short dialogue using greetings and introductions. Each person should introduce themselves and ask the other person a question." 📜 ICQs: "Can you tell me who you'll be working with?" "What's the goal of this activity?" "Do you need to use any specific vocabulary in your dialogue?" By incorporating ICQs into your teaching routine, you can ensure students are on the same page and ready to succeed in their learning tasks.

3.1 Content – Relate Evidence If a test actually samples the subject matter about which conclusion are to be drawn, and if it requires the test- takers to perform.the behaviour that is being measured, it can claim content -related evidence of validity ,often popularly referred to as content validity ( e.g Mousavi ,2002;Hughes, 2003). You can usually identify content -related evidence observational if you can clearly defined the achievements that you are meaning. 3.2 Criterion – Related Evidence : A second of Evidence of the validity of test may be found in what us called Criterion -Related Evidence also referred to as criterion – related validity, or the extent to which the “ criterion” of the test had actually been reached. You will recall that in chapter 1 it was noted thd most classroom based assessment with teacher – designed tests fits the concept of Criterion- referenced assessment. In such test, specified classroom objectives are measured, and immediately predetermined level of performance are expected yo ve reached ( 80 percent is considered z minimal passing grade)
