The U.S. military's wealth of experience is unparalleled. But how can they turn that experience into actionable insights for both humans and machines? A data-centric approach to warfare may hold the key. By integrating digital workflows and knowledge across its business and warfighting functions, the Department of Defense can capitalize on missed opportunities and transform its military experience into a machine-augmented, battle-tested force. As Ben Needles pointed out two years ago, digital knowledge is key to achieving this transformation. But it's not just about data and AI without context of outcomes. Over the years, many people have focused on improving mission workflows, and their influence has helped refine our narrative. The U.S. military's ability to harness its experience is what our adversaries fear the most. Let's move from PowerPoint to power moves and ensure that new technology is deployed at the speed of relevance! Thank you Bakari Dale, Joe OCallaghan, and Zach Riley for collaborating on this piece! Incredible thought leaders and doers in this space. We learned a lot about the importance of digital workflows and knowledge in the context of warfighting from many folks over the years. Greg and Bakari This piece strikes a chord with its astute observation being in direct alignment with something I have been thinking 🤔. It’s akin to discovering a new frontier; activity/resource (whether artificial or naturally occur) as the modern-day ‘black gold,’ with data representing the byproduct of the extraction process: Data is not the new oil the activity is. The transformation of data (as the virtual representation of the activity) into a tangible product mirrors the refining of oil, and the ultimate objective lies in data products that resonate with decision-making cues for the purposes of facilitating consumption of information commodities. Integrating these data-driven insights, assets, and commodities as data products back into the Warfighting Mission Area (WMA) promises to revolutionize the warfighting functions and speed analytics optempo. A round of applause for the team’s efforts in bringing this visionary concept and discussion to light! Pablo Breuer, Ph.D. Dr. Michael Klipstein Colleagues, I recommend an article beneficial for your circles. It raises key questions about achieving detailed data models and secure tagging. These scalable data products warrant further discussion, which I’ll pursue directly.
