Investors who stay the course during periods of volatility may be rewarded, as over time, new market expansions tend to exceed temporary downturns. Consider that in Feb. 2020, the market had reached an all-time high, a month later, the market lost nearly 34% of its value; six months later, the market had fully recovered its losses. Fast-forward to today in the wake of the Jan. 2022 sell off, the market is not yet back to its high, but it has made a meaningful recovery. Since 2020, investors have witnessed a historical lesson in the value of humility. Investors with a diversified, long-term strategy would have been rewarded by staying the course. A successful wealth journey requires discipline, long-term investing and planning.
