Free advice, worth as much 😎, for all you aspiring bikepackers out there.
Headed onto the Great Allegheny Passage Conservancy's GAP Trail next weekend, to enjoy a night at Round Bottom on the Youghiogheny River near Perryopolis PA and then further down the trail to the Eastern Continental Divide, to Frostburg MD, through the Big Savage Tunnel, and then that long descent into Cumberland MD.
In the past, I have used a Big Agnes Inc Fly Creek 2-man backpacking tent, which is a great tent, though it is not freestanding and if you are like me and are packing a little extra weight and girth these days, I'd suggest it's basically a one man shelter.
This time around, I intend to use a Mountain Hardwear AC 2 high altitude tent, because it will still be pretty cool in the evening, and I'm not so much worried about massive ventilation the way I would be at the height of summer. And it's a BOMBPROOF, free standing single wall shelter that is ridiculously compact and light for the unbelievable protection it provides.
In future, I may use my other Mountain Hardwear Trango 2-man mountaineering tent, if I'm traveling with a companion and can split the load across two bicycles.
As an alternative, I'd suggest for consider the newly released MSR - Mountain Safety Research Hubba Hubba BikePack 2-Person tent - it's more expensive than the comparable Big Agnes Inc Fly Creek, but it is free standing, which means a lot if you spend a lot of time on the road and are wiped out when it's late in the day, and you just want to get the tent up and relax.
Well, as I say, it's all free advice, and worth as much.
Have Fun, and Do Please Remember: It is Not a Race, It is a Journey, to be Savored!!!

Today, January 4th, holds special significance as World Braille Day 2024 unfolds. Braille, recognized as a sophisticated method of reading and communication, serves as a symbol of hope for individuals facing visual impairments or dealing with the challenges of limited vision. On this notable occasion, we reflect on the profound importance of commemorating the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the visionary behind this indispensable system.
The global community, with unanimous acknowledgment, pays sincere homage to Braille on World Braille Day, emphasizing the enduring importance of this tactile script in fostering awareness among the general public.
The primary objective of dedicating World Braille Day to scrutiny is to underscore the widespread acknowledgment of the Braille method. Even in the contemporary era, the omission of Braille format integration by institutions such as banks, hospitals, and restaurants is a matter of concern. This neglect, along with the apparent lack of encouragement, denies individuals facing visual impairment rightful access to information, perpetuating barriers that should have been dismantled by now.
In the face of this ongoing challenge, a heartfelt wish is extended for a Happy Braille Day! #WorldBrailleDay#Inclusion#Accessibility#BrailleAwareness

Tuesday Thoughts: Was driving in my hometown the other day (Shoutout #209!!) and had to avoid construction. I used many backroads and secret cuts through the city to get to my destination. Haven't lived there in years, but I still got it.
Was talking about just the same things with an event friend today. She asked: how many times I have been to Vegas for work and how did I navigate some of the larger properties?
Been.so.many.times. So many places that keep me rolling before, during and after an event.
It made me think of the secret passageways we event folk know, outlets we frequent, and secret directions to save a few steps on our hurting feet.
I can walk to SushiSamba in the Venetian with my eyes closed if you dropped me in the desert, could find the Mandalay Bay Starbucks with a bag on my head and could cross the secret garage cut-through while holding my breath from the car fumes.
#Eventprofs : What are your secret Vegas navigation and outlets?
