In the video, Kavira, one of the beneficiaries, explains how, before Tearfund's project, the community relied on unsafe water, leading to numerous waterborne diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, and typhoid. This project has brought significant relief to Kavira's community, improving their health and quality of life. At Grelcom SARL, we are proud to have collaborated on this project, showcasing the impactful work of Tearfund and its positive effect on the community. #CommunityImpact #SafeWater #HealthImprovement #TearFund #Grelcom #WaterProject #DRC #SustainableDevelopment

Enhulumi village, nestled atop a hill in the Phek District of Nagaland, stands as a testament to resilience and community spirit. With 230 households, it is home to the Chakhesang tribal Christians, classified under the Scheduled Tribe category. Despite having 7 springs, the village has faced a water crisis in the last 10-15 years. In response, the Northeast Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA), supported by Tata Trusts in partnership with the Government of Nagaland, the Land Resources Department & Rural Development Department initiated a program for water security that focused on both, community and science. Working together with steady resources, and refined skills, the improvements made to the chosen spring led to a notable increase in water flow, ultimately meeting the community's drinking water needs. For the people, by the peopleโturning adversity into triumph never looked better. Did you know that when protecting koala habitat, it is helpful to focus on why an area should be saved rather than why it should not be destroyed?ย The National Koala Recovery Plan states that habitat for koalas includes: -areas with koala food and shelter trees; -areas connected to large patches of koala habitat; -connecting habitat that is safe for koalas to cross; and -areas near streams, rivers and water bodies, especially near the western margins of koala distribution. We created the Guide to the National Koala Recovery Plan (Guide) to help community groups apply the National Koala Recovery Plan stand up for the environment. Itโs important to note that the federal government, including Ministers, should not approve actions that go against the National Koala Recovery Plan. Download the Guide today and share it to help protect koala habitat! https://lnkd.in/eywJ6aCF To hear more about our work, please find us on Instagram atย https://lnkd.in/exwbS9UH Thank you Jo Bangles, Wenda Shurety and Derek Johnson for helping us create the Guide! #epbcact #nationalkoalarecoveryplan

๐ข VOICES FROM THE ABERDARES Joseph Nderitu, a small-scale farmer who relies on the roads within the Aberdare and Ndaragwa forests, shares the daily struggles of everyday hardworking farmers. Despite the promises, the roads remain impassable, turning a 10-minute drive into a 3-hour ordeal. This is not just a road issueโthis is a livelihood issue. We stand with our farmers and support the alternative route proposal of the Ndaragwa - Kariamu - Ndunyu Njeru road. This route promises to improve access, boost local economies, and protect our precious forests. Itโs time for action, and time to prioritize the needs of our communities. #SupportAlternativeRoute #FarmersFirst #RoadToProgress #CancelNEMALicence

Unrelenting Rains Wreak Havoc on Rural Sindh: A Call for Urgent Action: Just 48 hours ago, a formidable weather event swept across every corner of Sindh, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. The impact has been particularly severe in various regions, with Tharparkar, Mithi, and Umarkot witnessing an unprecedented combination of snowfall and rain, causing substantial losses in crops. The adverse weather patterns also inflicted heavy casualties among animals, especially goats and sheep, succumbing to the intense rainfall in Sindh. โ๏ธ๐ง๏ธ๐จ๏ธ The agricultural heartlands have borne the brunt of this natural onslaught, with crops in the affected areas almost entirely laid to waste. The situation has been exacerbated by ongoing flash floods triggered by the relentless downpour. The consequences are dire โ people are grappling with the complete destruction of their resources, prompting a desperate search for shelter amid this abrupt and intense climatic shift. ๐พ๐๏ธ News reports and social media updates, accompanied by stark images shared by locals, paint a vivid picture of the extensive losses suffered in the rural expanses of Sindh. Crops, livestock, household belongings, and even traditional mud houses have fallen victim to the ferocity of the weather. Rainwater stands ominously in various pockets of rural Sindh, a testament to the challenges faced by communities in the aftermath of this climatic upheaval. ๐ธ๐ In response to this crisis, it is imperative for us to rise to the occasion and implement immediate measures to mitigate the impact of these unpredictable climate changes on the people of Sindh. The need for concerted efforts is evident, and it is heartening to witness development partners, particularly UN agencies like #FAO, #WFP, and other entities, taking swift action. Their active engagement in emergency assessments and provision of support to rural communities is a beacon of hope amid this crisis. ๐๐ As a community, we must collectively respond to these unforeseen challenges. Let us stand in solidarity with the affected residents of Sindh, working hand in hand to rebuild lives and livelihoods. The resilience of these communities in the face of adversity is a testament to the strength that unity brings. Together, we can weather this storm and pave the way for a more resilient and sustainable future for the rural landscapes of Sindh. #ClimateResilience #CommunitySupport #SindhStrong ๐ค๐ฑ๐ช

In Nagaland, #springs have been drying up or becoming #seasonal, leading to an acute shortage of water, particularly during the winters. A #springshed intervention was implemented through Tata Trustsโ nodal agency North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA), to optimise land use in hilly regions, promoting appropriate #agricultural and #horticultural practices. Tata Trusts worked to regenerate and recharge mountain aquifers for drinking water security, to enhance rainfall infiltration into the ground, and to increase the #recharge capabilities of spring aquifers to sustain the local #ecosystem. These spring #rejuvenation activities covered 41 springs in 36 villages across nine districtsย ofย theย state. #TataTrusts

Today I'm supporting Farm Angels, Flanno for a Farmer day. Farm Angels provide financial assistance, food hampers, care packs, and mental well-being support to over 4,700 primary producers affected by all natural disasters (drought, flood, fire, and plagues) in over 1,300 communities across Australia.ย According to a 2021 study, one farmer commits suicide every 10 days (59% higher than the rate among non-farmers). Farm Angels seeks to reduce this through phone conversations and on farm visits. By supporting these farmers to stay on the land through assistance tailored to their individual needs, Farm Angels contributes to Australiaโs regional economies, food security and the social well-being of rural communities.
