The GREENTECH FESTIVAL opened its doors at the new location of Messe Berlin today, and the turnout was awesome! 🚀 Here‘s my Top Highlights from today‘s Exhibition: ✈️ APUS Zero Emission GmbH: Apus is set to make history with the first hydrogen fuel cell certified aircraft to go into production. Their emission-free aircraft will have its inaugural flight from Sylt to Berlin, embodying sustainable aviation, innovative thinking, and visionary developments. 🌍 Poetsch: Poetsch introduced a revolutionary pavement stone that mimics the properties of grass. It's permeable, allowing water to pass through directly to the earth, while also filtering out microplastics and other contaminants. A smart and eco-friendly solution for urban environments! 🚗 AUDI AG: Audi presented ⁠the Audi Q6 e-tron, as well as the RS Q e-tron (the vehicle that won the Dakar Rally). They're also showcasing the premium electric platform for the Audi Q6 and A6 which is super cool to see. 🚛 DLR/U-shift Driveboard: DLR showcased their modular, fully electric, and autonomous U-Shift vehicle concept. By separating the driving module from the transport capsule, they create new possibilities for intermodal transport, including autonomous delivery, intra-logistics, and barrier-free passenger transport. Innovative companies in the green tech space are super important in driving the transition towards a more sustainable future. Cenex Expo 2024: Driving Innovation with Data Another fantastic two-day event welcomed over 4,000 attendees, showcasing the latest breakthroughs in Innovation, Sustainable Materials, and Connected Automated Mobility (CAM). It was great to see the industry coming together to forge a path towards Net Zero transport. Here are James Broomer's key takeaways: 1️⃣ Migration from ICE: - Steady growth across the low carbon vehicle (LCV) sector but personal passenger EV products are still seen as too expensive. Public LCVs do not serve all customers currently, specifically those in more rural areas. - Governing bodies should remain technology-neutral while guiding the industry to address challenges, ensuring customers are engaged in the process. - The time is now. Immediate focus should be on optimizing existing charging infrastructure rather than waiting for ideal conditions, and the rollout of new infrastructure should be reliable and unremarkable in its consistency. 2️⃣ Future of Transport - Transport is a complex system and must be navigated as such. Understanding the inputs, outputs and interdependencies is key to driving better outcomes. - Trusted and well-presented data is essential for accelerating progress and enabling better decision-making. - Being clear on the priorities will allow focus on the right areas. Whether that is user-centricity, embracing change or working across silos. 3️⃣ Clarity on the ZEV Roadmap 2030 - No more sales of new petrol or diesel vehicles. Hybrid vehicles must have a 'significant range' zero-emission mode. 2035 - All new cars must be fully zero-emission. New Hybrid vehicle sales will cease. 2040 - HGVs under 26 tons must be zero-emission. 2050 - Every vehicle on UK roads (new and existing) must be zero-emission. Significant progress has been made over the past year, but further efforts are needed to stay on track with the Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) roadmap leading to 2050. Additionally, sectors like Energy, Construction, Heavy Industry, and Agriculture must also align with this transition for broader success. 🚍 Advancing Swiss Public Transport with Innovation 🚍 We're thrilled to share that our #AutoDepot Project has been featured in the latest Overview of Research and Innovation in Public Transport report by the Office fédéral des transports OFT . This recognition highlights our efforts toward a more efficient and sustainable future for public transportation in Switzerland. Imagine a world where buses park, recharge, and maintain themselves autonomously, freeing up valuable time for drivers and reducing operational costs. Our vision is becoming a reality, thanks to collaborative efforts. After a pre-study concluded that the project is viable and makes sense, we are now gathering members to build a #consortium to create the first prototype, expected to be ready by 2028. 11 SAAM members supported the initial proof of concept, and discussions are currently active to involve them in this next phase. The first road tests in Belgium of the new ATX URBANIZED platform begin in the coming days. This is an urban electric vehicle prototype manufactured by ALKE in partnership with 8 European partners: Applus+ IDIADA, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, TNO, bpost, Bax & Company, Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), Vitesco Technologies and CLEPA - European Association of Automotive Suppliers in the context of the European project URBANIZED supported by the EU Commission. This new platform aims for safety standards never seen before in similar compact vehicles (4 stars Euro NCAP), integrates 4 levels of cloud-monitored eco-functions (eco-driving, eco-comfort, eco-charging and eco-routing), is designed to integrate a modular swap-body based cargo area system, and much more. Tests in the coming weeks will be conducted by BPOST in the streets of the capital city of Brussels adding this vehicle into its logistics fleet. In 2025, Gothenburg will host EVS38, the world's largest conference on e-mobility. Returning to Europe, this 38th edition marks a significant milestone as it debuts in Sweden.
