📣 Get ready to meet our 2024 Annual Award Nominees! 🏆 From now until December 31st, we will be shining a spotlight on the incredible buildings that have been nominated for this prestigious honor. Stay tuned to our social media channels to learn more about these inspiring stories and accomplishments. 🎉 Boulder Fire Station - Davis Partnership Green Building of the Year Nominee Boulder has a long history of environmentalism, dating back as far as the late 1800’s. So, it is no surprise that the City’s latest fire station would continue this legacy as a beacon of sustainability as well as safety. Although technically new construction, Station #3 most notably repurposed materials from the neighboring decommissioned and deconstructed Boulder Community Hospital, providing 89 re-used steel members ultimately sparing 25,000kgCO2eq of embodied carbon and building a story of resourceful rebirth. It’s 6,000 sf living green roof is not only beautiful, it insulates and reduces energy use, manages stormwater, all while providing the firefighters with an urban oasis. The station is fully electric, powered by a 32KW solar array that fuels 64% of the station’s needs, with an Energy Usage Index (EUI) of just 56.2, compared to an EUI of 124.9 for typical public safety facilities, ultimately consuming less than half of its peers. Energy conservation is also integrated into every detail, from R-20 walls, R-35 roof, LED lighting, occupancy sensors, VAV RTU with a heat pump utilizing direct expansion heating and cooling with a sensible wheel serving VAV boxes. Every detail is a story of commitment. And soon, it will house the nation’s first fully electric fire truck, merging innovation with tradition. This fire station is more than a building; it’s a promise— a testament to what Colorado’s future can hold. Vote Now! https://lnkd.in/g8xBJdXh

Wait til they find out there’s three of me…. I joined the Illinois Green Alliance a few years ago as I started to recognize the power in this incredible network of professionals and after meeting Katie Kaluzny and Brian Imus. Alone, it’s tough to change markets and industries, but the collaboration and sharing that happens at IGA is like no organization I’ve ever been part of. If you are a sustainably minded professional, engineer, HVAC contractor, architect or just a Realtor/Consultant like me, IGA supports your professional development with leading edge programs. IGA’s network of memebers will serve as constant inspiration that everyday people call make extraordinary change happen. Membership has given me an opportunity to center a conversation about residential electrification that many want to push aside. The power of together gets us a seat at the public policy table. #bealsproperties #chicagorealestate #chicagorealtor #chicagohome #justlisted #homesearch #chicagorealestateagent #chicagorealestateinvestors #chicagorealestatebrokers #chicagolife #chicagodeveloper #chicagobuilder #chicagobuilders #newconstructionchicago #chicagocontractor #heatpump #solarenergy #electrification #nogas #greenbuild #heatpumps #deepenergyretrofit #decarbonization #hybrid #insulation #airsealing #allelectric #renewableenergy #buildingscience #induction #downsizing Chicago Association of REALTORS® National Association of REALTORS®
April Volunteer Highlight - Wayne Beals, GREEN! Describing Wayne as a dedicated volunteer is an understatement. It often feels as though Wayne is in multiple places at once—he volunteers with our Programs Committee, hosts electric building tours, advocates for green policy at the Chicago City Council, meets with city council members, and much more. Yet, what's even more impressive than his involvement is the knowledge, passion, and enthusiasm he brings to every discussion about green buildings. Thank you for all that you do, Wayne!

Tens of thousands of hours of work and over a million dollars in investment have brought us to this new rescue station concept. It's our initial attempt to create what we call 'the fire alarm equivalent for drowning." – Jacob Soter '19'20, co-founder and manager of SwimSmart Technology From engineering in the Enterprise Program at Michigan Tech to business insights gained through the Michigan Tech College of Business Tech MBA® program, Soter's journey shows the power of combining passion with preparation.
