🏆 I am a huge #Olympics fans, I watch EVERY sport, I love the athlete’s stories, I love the underdogs – everything about it. What I also am is a huge advocate for mental health and wellbeing. In all of my years of Olympic viewing, I’ve never heard more open discussion and focus on the athlete’s mental health & wellbeing. I’ve always proudly stood on my soap box advocating that being open about mental health is as important as saying you have a broken bone or strained muscle. It is amazing that now younger viewers of these games can hear their heroes openly discuss it. #mentalhealth #wellbeing #Olympics2024 #Inspiration 💚 PS GO USA!! 🏅

🌈📅 Just like that, it is July 1st, marking the conclusion of abcam's incredible Pride activities. (Pun intended) I couldn't be prouder of all the efforts displayed by our employee resource group, ARC (Abcam Rainbow Committee). 👏 Let's give a big round of applause to Dalton, who led the way in organizing a delightful bi-dem pancake breakfast and cupcake decorating extravaganza at our Eugene site with funds raised going to support TransPonder. But that's not all! My personal favorite was the One Day Volunteer outing, where our dedicated employees supported the Love is Love event, graciously helping to support, decorate, and act as witness to weddings and vow renewals at the courthouse. 💃 Not to be outdone, Danilo and Connor brilliantly planned Abcam's first-ever drag bingo event. With the fabulous 'Knuckle Sandwich' as our charming host, while proceeds went to The Kite Trust. Such a cool, unique twist on a classic game. 🎨 Meanwhile, in Waltham, Asher & Barbara went above and beyond by organizing not one, but two tie-dye events. The vibrant colors and creative energy truly embodied the spirit of pride. And to top it off, we wrapped up the festivities with a pride-themed happy hour! ❤️ I love seeing everyone coming together to celebrate PRIDE. While we wholeheartedly embrace the energy and community during June, it's important to note that this spirit is not confined to a single month. Let's be honest: conference rooms don't always inspire much excitement. How often do you walk into one and even notice its name? I have to give major kudos to Adam, Martin, and our abcam Waltham workplace teams for posting photos and informational posters about our conference room namesakes. Now, each room tells a story about people who've made significant contributions to STEM, like Henrietta Lacks, whose HeLa cells revolutionized science, and Columbian scientist Nubia Muñoz, who transformed cervical cancer diagnosis and treatment. Plus, it's always nice to see familiar faces, like my former coworker Daniel Pregibon, whose picture adorns the conference room right next to my desk!  

Anyone who knows me, knows I live for my “Broadway weekends” with Jordan. On our docket yesterday was the new show "Suffs", & it-was-mind-blowing! The show shines a spotlight on the suffragists, or Suffs, who fearlessly fought against inequality (also don't call them suffragettes, it's considered sexist). Suffs celebrates the badass women like Alice Paul and Lucy Burns, who fought tooth & nail for women's right to vote in the early 1900s. The iconic image of Inez Milholland riding on the white horse of liberty during the march is now etched in my brain along with the song "Keep Marching" – which I’m still humming at my desk. I was never taught this history (or should I say herstory?) other than a quick paragraph in a social studies class. Now to hear the names and the stories of these extraordinary women who paved the way for gender equality, I want to know more. Additionally impressive the show didn’t shy away or sugarcoat the fact that the women's suffrage movement often discriminated against Black women, while also sharing stories like Ida B. Wells & Mary Church Terrell. I hope all folks that are so well versed in Alexander Hamilton’s story, now feel the same way and learn every word from this show. 💜 #ProgressIsPossibleNotGuaranteed #SuffsBroadway #WomenEmpowerment #GenderEquality 

Last week along with Gina Conti and Xavier Brown, I attended one of my favorite annual events the Waltham Partnership For Youth (WPY) Partner Celebration, as always it was truly an inspiring event. Bringing together leaders from Waltham's educational, municipal, and business sectors, showcasing the impact of WPY's partnerships on the youth of Waltham. My personal highlight of the event was reconnecting with our former intern, Thara Noel. Two years ago, Thara joined abcam for a summer internship, and it was wonderful to see her growth and success. Now a sophomore at Harvard University, she recently completed a gap year where she worked in a lab, and shared how happy she was to see our products every day. It's moments like these that reaffirm the importance of supporting young talent and investing in their future. I watched the movie "Scrambled" over the weekend & can't recommend it enough. The plot resonates deeply with me (and I'm sure many in the working world): you graduate college, dive into your career, and then suddenly realize at 35 that your chances of getting pregnant naturally are dwindling - never mind if you're in a relationship or not! I had this realization mid-pandemic at 38 and decided to undergo the egg freezing process. While it was a long and tedious journey, I have never regretted it for one second. It is astonishing that even though women make up 56% of the workforce, only 19% of large employers offered egg freezing benefits by 2020. Fertility services as an employee benefit are crucial and need more attention.
