https://lnkd.in/g_rH9b5j This article starts well with great advice from Jeff Vickers on where best to put our focus (reduced car use) compared with where NZers think they should focus (recycling). Unfortunately, however, the article ends with the wrong conclusions, focusing as it does on personal responsibility as a means of reducing emissions. People recycle because it's easy. It's easy because most councils have the right infrastructure. Nzers are not going to abandon their cars unless we provide the right public transport and active mode infrastructure. We need system change, not behavior change. I wish more journalists would understand this.

Another super helpful overview by Hannah Ritchie's "Sustainability in Numbers" -- this time on air pollution from electric vehicles and petrol/diesel vehicles: "When it comes to air pollution we need to consider a range of pollutants. There are particular gases, such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) which are particularly bad for human health. But there are also particulates – especially very small particles (which we call ‘PM2.5’) that can get lodged into our respiratory systems. We also need to consider four sources of pollution: 1. Exhaust / tailpipe 2. Brake wear 3. Tyre wear 4. Road wear and dust" "Non-exhaust emissions from cars have mostly been overlooked in policy and research because they’ve been dwarfed by exhaust emissions. But, significant reductions in exhaust emissions in modern cars mean that they’re becoming more important. Now that most particulates come from non-exhaust sources, reducing pollution further (regardless of whether it’s EVs or petrol cars) means we need to find new solutions to those sources."
