🙋♀️ Why does governance matter❓ Three things usually come up when I speak with my customers... 1️⃣ Everybody's making big bets on AI. That's probably not a surprise to you. 💡 A strong data foundation is critical for success. If the data quality and governance is poor it leads to poor predictive outcomes. My customers are also concerned about Trust and Explainability. A great example is #NYCAIActionPlan which is focused on promoting responsible and innovative use of artificial intelligence, ensuring that it is safe, effective, fair, and ethical while benefiting all New Yorkers. The need for governance has become even more important than before. 2️⃣ How will Snowflake interoperate with my existing ecosystem? 💡 My customers have data all over. Sometimes moving everything to Snowflake is not the best fit solution. My customers made investments in Snowflake to ensure interoperability regardless of where the data lives, either inside or outside Snowflake. Interoperability drives a need for strong governance. 3️⃣ Many of my customers are subject to stringent regulatory requirements regarding how they handle data. 💡 Effective governance helps ensure compliance with these regulations by controlling and monitoring data access, storage, and processing. It's about earning people's trust. When people know their data is managed securely and in compliance with regulations, it builds confidence in the services provide. 🤝 It's clear data governance is imperative, so it should not be complicated to implement. 🤔 ❄️ Snowflake Horizon is the platform’s built-in governance solution with a unified set of compliance, security, privacy, interoperability, and access capabilities. So...if data is the new gold, imagine the chaos when that goldmine is left unguarded. Microsoft, a tech giant we all know and trust, recently discovered a massive data leak that should scare the living bejesus (yes, that is an English word now...) out of you. No, seriously, it should. The company's AI researchers accidentally exposed tens of terabytes of sensitive data, including private keys and passwords. Chew on this bit...the data was exposed since 2020!!!!!!!!! What's even more alarming is that the leak wasn't just a simple oversight. It was a configuration error that granted "full control" permissions, meaning anyone who stumbled upon this could potentially delete, replace, or even inject malicious content. We're talking about 38 terabytes of sensitive information, including personal backups of Microsoft employees and more than 30,000 internal Microsoft Teams messages! So, why should you care? Because this incident shows that even the giants are vulnerable and if they can make such a mistake, what's stopping smaller companies with fewer resources from doing the same? Microsoft has since revoked the overly permissive shared access signature token and claims that "no customer data was exposed."
