There's no doubt knowing how to pitch your ideas has become a crucial career tool. But shouldn't the ARC be spending time & effort to take "the pitch" out of the equation as much as possible? Science, after all, developed as a set of methodologies to minimise all those things we know compromise discovery: bias, selling, promoting, misrepresenting. What procedures are being put in place to make sure that the panel that assesses the EOIs does so *scientifically*? EOIs should be judged on the basis of the quality & potential of the science, as objectively as possible, according to the principles & rigour of good science.
On 29 November 2023, the ARC hosted a Webinar: “How to Pitch an EOI” to support the introduction of the EOI process for Discovery Projects 25.
Unfortunately, some researchers were unable to join the session live due to technical difficulties. We know your time is valuable and sincerely apologise for this.
We did record the presentations, however, and you can watch the very informative tips provided by our guest speakers, Professors Penny Brothers, Catharine Coleborne and Michael Mintrom here https://lnkd.in/eACSt4dF
We are planning more information sessions in the future, so stay tuned.
