NEW YORK (AP) — Target has revamped its grocery aisles since the COVID-19 pandemic with items ranging from Korean foods and mocktails to barbecue-flavored trail mix as the discount retailer caters to shoppers who want to experiment while sticking to a budget. Like many retailers, Target noticed that some habits its customers acquired during the height of the public health crisis, such as snacking and an interest in new flavors, have outlasted the pandemic. But the inflation that drove up food prices last year, though abating, still has shoppers looking for ways to stretch their dollars. Under Rick Gomez, Target’s chief food, essentials and beauty officer, the Minneapolis-based retailer plans to introduce up to 2,000 new food and beverage items this year. The number includes products in its store label brands - Good & Gather, Market Pantry and Favorite Day - and from national and emerging brands. Walmart is creating what they believe will be a new sweet spot for shoppers. As more shoppers switch stores to save money, Walmart (Like Aldi, Lidl, and Trader Joe's) is picking up new price-conscious shoppers. Their new private label brand, Better Goods, is designed to be a higher-priced specialty food line within Walmart. This is one to watch as Walmart is breaking its typical patterns by launching innovative, higher-priced private-label products that will help build loyalty with its shoppers. Irish Snack Attack! €12 Million Spent on Treats in Latest Month A new report by Kantar, highlighted in ESM Magazine, reveals: - €12 Million on Indulgence: Irish consumers spent a combined €12 million on savory snacks, chocolate, wine, and cider in the four weeks leading up to July 7th, 2024. - Summer of Sports: This surge in spending on treats is likely fueled by the excitement surrounding various sporting events, with people enjoying snacks and drinks while watching. - BBQ Sales Lag: However, the report also highlights a decline in sales of barbecue staples like chilled salads, burgers, and grills due to unseasonably cold weather.
