In a new, comprehensive review, The Greenlining Institute and the USC Equity Research Institute studied the impact of the California Climate Investments (CCI) over the past decade, focusing on the equity and effectiveness of these investments in serving the communities most impacted by environmental injustice. The results show that policymakers and funders committed to equitable climate action should also invest in community power by centering community needs, voices, and agency. This #EarthDay, we’re celebrating the climate action that #ClimateMayors are taking to improve resilience and sustainability in their cities for a greener and healthier future. As we mark our organization’s ten-year anniversary this year, we are proud of the work we have led to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build more resilient and equitable communities. We’ve taken action in 2024 to support decisive climate policies – not just today, but every day. To address carbon emissions from the transportation sector, a group of 75 of our mayors advocated for the strongest proposed EPA rules for GHG emissions from heavy-duty vehicles. We also supported final federal guidance on elective pay for clean energy tax credits and emphasized the vital role local governments play in maximizing investments from the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. One best practice for growing resilience and sustainability in cities is fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration. This approach involves facilitating partnerships between community members, startups/businesses, and local government entities in partnership for green city projects with a lens on equity.

🎉 The City of San Diego is now required to set annual GHG reduction targets. Falling short of these targets will trigger public disclosure and hearings, and an amendment to the CAP to identify how the city will realign with its targets. Faced with the need to reach CAP goals, we took legal action to ensure the city meets legal requirements. The result? A huge step forward in strengthening the CAP, setting a new precedent in climate accountability and action. This settlement provides the opportunity to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy. It's time we invest in reducing emissions and increasing our communities' resilience to climate impacts! 💚 📢 For more details, check out our latest blog ➡️ https://loom.ly/Xepsju0

Mass lesgislature, shame on you for not moving on this How knows! People call your legislator. And read this important piece by Joe Curtatone.
🚨 A Critical Moment for Climate Action in Massachusetts -- NECEC President Joe Curtatone Speaks Out in Commonwealth Beacon Op-ed🚨 While I am heartened that the legislature is suspending rules to vote on the Mass Leads Act, it is equally crucial that they negotiate and pass the climate bill. This missed opportunity to expedite clean energy adoption, modernize grid infrastructure, and position Massachusetts as a global hub for climate innovation is a significant setback. The consequences are dire: delayed renewable energy projects, potential loss of investment in Massachusetts, and an almost impossible path to meet our 2030 and 2050 emission reduction targets. This inaction impacts healthcare, housing, workforce development, and other public policy priorities, threatening our equitable net-zero future. However, this is not the end of the road. Lawmakers must regroup, reassess, and recommit to passing robust climate legislation immediately. By doing so, Massachusetts can demonstrate that ambitious climate goals are achievable, drive economic growth, and improve public health. State leadership is crucial to set an example and inspire other states to follow suit. More cool things to protect health being done with Climate Commitment Act funding! The CCA is set up so that the highest polluters pay more and the hardest hit communities benefit most. CCA will be on your ballot this year. Help spread the word to your families and friends about why this is so important for health! #environmentaljustice #climateandhealth #VoteNoI2117
Communities will never face equal threat from climate change. Some frontline communities are already experiencing devastating consequences, while others won’t have significant, consistent experiences for several years or even decades. Our Clean Energy Grant Program launched a new type of funding opportunity that uses multiple Climate Commitment Act funding streams to support the communities most impacted by climate change. This program has already awarded grants to five tribes through the Tribal Clean Energy Program, and we recently announced nearly $73 million to 71 community decarbonization projects in the communities that need it most. Next, Commerce will announce awards for a third, general solicitation for clean energy projects. The Biden-Harris Administration has taken a major step to support voluntary carbon markets with the publication of seven integrity principles which underpin the sector and provide a greater platform to tackle climate change. Jaclyn Foss, VCM Business Development Manager at CFP Energy, said: "We are pleased to see the Biden-Harris Administration release a joint policy statement and integrity principles for Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCMs). This marks another pivotal moment in the VCM space, showcasing a strong commitment to environmental integrity and economic opportunity." The guidelines aim to tackle current integrity challenges, promote robust standards, and ensure fair treatment of all participants. Once the new standards are implemented and maintained with authority, the Voluntary Carbon Market can drive significant progress towards our shared climate goals. Our overview highlights how the principles will deliver market confidence and support diverse stakeholders from around the world. Access, here. https://lnkd.in/gQjfNfXJ

At CleanChoice Energy, we envision a world free of catastrophic climate change for all. By helping people switch from polluting energy sources to 100% clean energy, we work hard every day to make that vision a reality, and we’re optimistic about a cleaner, greener future. Unfortunately, right now there are many communities across the U.S. and around the world that are bearing the brunt of environmental hazards and injustices. Here’s a closer look at environmental justice and why it’s so important: https://bit.ly/4ckZCoe
