🚨 New National Gender Equity in Sports Governance Policy Released! 🚨 Australia's first National Gender Equity in Sports Governance Policy has been launched to boost female representation in sports leadership. Developed by the Australian Sports Commission and State and Territory Sport Agencies, this policy sets clear targets for national and state sports bodies to achieve by July 1, 2027: 50% of board directors are women and/or gender diverse 50% of board chairs are women and/or gender diverse 50% of key board sub-committee members are women and/or gender diverse. In Queensland, our Activate! Queensland 2019-2029 strategy supports this policy and organisations funded under the department’s Active Industry Base Fund must achieve the gender equity targets on its board by 2029. Did you know that archery was the first Olympic sport to allow women competitors? Archery set a historical first of being the only sport women could compete in at the 1904 Olympics in St. Louis, Missouri.    Fortunately, these days, we have plenty of amazing women athletes in such a dazzling array of sports. There is always work to be done in addressing gender inequality, but a lot of progress has been made in the sporting world. Archery’s merit as a vanguard for women’s empowerment doesn’t just stop there. Women have been at the forefront of this unique sport since the ancient Greeks with depictions of Artemis and Diana. Not to mention that Inger Firth became the sixth president of World Archery in 1961, the first woman of an international federation.    Jump back in time to the Tudors, where Anne Boleyn used archery to woo her future suitor, Henry VIII; and to 1787, where the Royal British Bowmen became the first British Sporting Society to admit women as members. “The coverage isn’t there” Just 6% of sports media coverage in Ireland goes to women’s sport. With a lack of visibility and role models of women in sport, girls and women don’t feel they belong in sport. Through visibility and advocacy we want to stimulate conversation, influence public policy, and dismantle gender biases. If you can see it, you can be it. I couldn’t see it better than the Independent Women’s Voice: “This is what AOC thinks about over 70% of Americans who don’t want men in women’s sports or locker rooms…” According to AOC, we are “bigots” because we don’t want cowardly DUDES who pose as fake women in REAL WOMEN'S sports just to steal their sports scholarships, records, and awards because they SUCK in MEN'S sports. We also want to protect our REAL WOMEN AND GIRLS from being badly hurt or possibly killed by these DUDES, especially in contact sports. For individuals like AOC and Jasmine Crockett, we are “bigots” — REAL WOMEN don’t have civil rights. The only ones who have civil rights are these DUDES who play to be FAKE WOMEN, and we have to tolerate and accept their delirium.

Good move! However, significant gaps exist in the data, knowledge, and research around gender-based violence in sport. More diverse data will enable more inclusive and intersectional policy-making. It is critical to note that ensuring inclusive and equitable representation of women and amplifying women's voices in sport narratives and securing their presence in decision-making roles is one way to challenge the the status quo and pave the way for a more equitable sports culture. #GBV #EndGBV #GBVInSports #EndViolenceAgainstWomen
