Sometimes, donations to a non-profit can be burdensome for the organization. Many nonprofits lack the infrastructure to accept physical assets like cars and real estate. Automobile and real estate donations allow non-profit organizations to raise large amounts of money, and allow contributors to easily donate in a more significant way. In this episode of Associations Thrive, host Joanna Pineda interviews Howard Pearl, CEO of CARS (Charitable Adult Rides & Services). Do this at the end of your next campaign. Call (or email if you don't have time) your donors. Thank them. Even though they may have made their contribution through their cousin or friend who had asked them to help out, nonetheless, they donated. They exist in your database. You can get a bigger donation from them next year if you engage with them correctly. Something along the lines of: "Hey, you may not remember doing this, but you donated $20 to our charity through your friend Charlie who took on a personal fundraising goal. I wanted to personally thank you, and let you know that your contribution made a huge difference and helped us do more good." And that's it. Stop there. No agenda. No invitations anywhere. No asking for more. Just a thank you. After doing that and waiting an appropriate amount of time, you can engage again and slowly bring your new donor base through a proper funnel until you approach your next campaign. And then, compare. See who donated a second time. And those who donated two years in a row are most likely to donate for years to come.
