Do you have a company Volunteer Emergency policy? The recent hurricanes and fires remind me of a policy we put in place at one of my former employers. I then brought it with me to three other companies. Here is the concept: 🌟Employees can use volunteer emergency time three times per calendar year, each lasting no more than 3 workdays. 🌟The time off must be used in their state of residence The process is very simple for both the employee and the employer: • Employees show proof of membership in the volunteer emergency organization within 30 days of employment or 30 days within joining So why would an employer offer this? It’s a win-win situation. 💯 For the employer, it shows you care about the community. Unless you pay your employees for the time off, it is a “free” policy. It’s not a policy that gets a lot of use, so the risk of being taken advantage of is low. PR opportunities abound. Note: see below if you want to pay your associates for the time. For the employee, it allows you to serve your community without needing to take your vacation/PTO time. If you want more than three days, you can apply for vacation/PTO days (employer needs to approve or not). Your contributions to your neighborhood will be so appreciated by those affected by the emergency and that’s an amazing feeling. Bonus points: One of my companies paid those employees who dedicated their time and service to their state. The other two did not pay. Here’s how to make it happen: 1️⃣Employees submit a letter from the volunteer emergency organization stating the nature of the emergency, dates and times served. 2️⃣The pay request must be submitted within 3 business days of the return to work. Now is the time to consider a policy that supports your employees and your community. It’s a win-win and good stuff! #Group928 #executiverecruiting #ilovehr #policy #fires #LAfires #hurricanes #emergency #emergencies #redcross #volunteerfiredepartment #privateequity #manufacturing #help #community #neighborhood

2moI love this! One of my former companies traded PTO hours for volunteer hours and had a fantastic volunteer portal that allowed associates to simply sign up for volunteer opportunities.
