The challenge of career transitioning cannot be talked about without tracing it to its root. When you start by accepting to study a course that you never applied for or dreamt of ever studying then you have signed up for working in an environment you may never like. Why do we allow our children to study courses they would later not use the certificates for anything? Until you discover your purpose on earth you will keep on working in places you would never find peace of mind and happiness no matter the amount you are being paid. The time to find that job that makes you happy has come. First, why are you here on Earth? Till you answer that question and this "what do I really like to do, what's my passion, do I have a talent, do I have a skill? The Fear of Leaving a 9-5: Why It Holds Us Back So many people feel stuck in their 9-5 jobs, even when it's draining their energy and joy. They want more out of life, but the fear of the unknown keeps them locked in place. I've been there myself, and I know that feeling all too well—the uncertainty, the "what ifs," and the thought of risking it all. We envy those who’ve made the leap, but we lack the willpower to follow in their footsteps. Why? Because that fear can be paralyzing. It whispers in our ears: “What if you fail? What if you lose everything? What if this dream isn’t as good as it looks?” For me, it took hitting an emotional wall. One day, on my way home from work, I found myself crying on the bus—tears from the beginning of the journey until the end. That’s when I knew something had to change. I decided right then and there to leave. And you know what? It was the best decision I ever made. Fear is natural, but don’t let it stop you from chasing the life you truly deserve. The reality is, comfort zones aren’t always comfortable. Sometimes, they slowly drain us while we sit in silent despair, hoping for something better. If you’re reading this and you feel like John—unhappy, unmotivated, and stuck—it’s time to take action. Your dreams are waiting, but they won’t come to you until you take the first step. You don’t need to know the whole path ahead. Just take that first step. Trust yourself. Once you push past that fear, you’ll realize the freedom and fulfillment that come with pursuing work you love. Back in '98, a small-town kid from Eastern Europe landed his first job, thanks to an exchange year in the US. Imagine this: A 16-year-old from a newly independent country, wide-eyed and eager, steps into small-town Wisconsin, expecting the skyscrapers of NYC or the glamour of LA. Instead, I found something far more valuable – a different perspective on life and work. TODAY, at 11:00am CST, I'm gonna lift the veil again, get vulnerable, and share a few things I did when I was charting a new course for my life and career. Spoke to a lot of year 9 kids last night about careers. Two keys messages: 1. You will soon choose your first career, not your last. 2. Get a job in retail or volunteer and learn how to communicate with a range of people. You won't learn that at Uni or at school.

My breaking point came with one realization. I was waiting for someone i didn't respect to give me a promotion that validated my worth. If I could ask my younger self in 2012 one question, to stop me living through so much friction. It would be “why?” My identity was built on the job I did. But If I’d focussed on the following sooner; 🟠Why do you want that title? 🟠Why do you want more money? 🟠What is it you actually need? 🟠How will you make that happen? For me I wanted out of the corporate workplace. To not have to answer to anyone, do work I love for people who would appreciate what I did. But it took me a long time to realize that. And it had negative effects on my career and professional relationships as I was going through that.  If I asked myself those questions, I could have made a clear plan and I wouldn’t have been living through so much friction in my life. I never reflected on this, I just reacted to the friction, quitting my job with no clear plan of what I’d do next. It’s up to you to get clear on what you want but make sure there is a good foundation for it. Think back to your first job at a small new company. You were super excited and ready to work hard, even if it meant less money. Sounds like you, right? But, the rewards didn't match your passion. The small share of the company you got didn't show how early you joined or how hard you worked. Here's the hard truth: early workers at these companies often work really hard but don't get the same rewards. It's time we talk about this, don't you think?
