I often get asked about using AI in B2B sales outreach. While it seems every software platform is promoting AI, I believe its benefits for B2B sales are overhyped right now. Here's why: 1. Mass skepticism to fake personalization: AI in sales is currently limited to using publicly available data. This approach is becoming increasingly abundant, leading to more skepticism. 2. Reputation risks: Over-automating outreach to a small audience can damage reputation and deliverability, outweighing the minor efficiency gains. 3. Successful campaigns latch onto what customers are becoming, not what they are right now: AI makes decisions based on past data, missing out on the potential of pattern interrupts and harnessing emergent properties. 4. Bad incentives: The hype around AI can lead to blind acceptance of its capabilities without truly understanding how it works. 5. The human salesperson bottleneck: Even with a successful AI-driven outreach program, prospects still need to interact with a human salesperson during the sales cycle.
