Many people do not understand the extent to which the #foodshortage crisis in the country is affecting #Nigerians. For most urban dwellers who can afford 2 to 3 square meals a day, it is a mere rhetoric. One needs to visit remote communities and see how they are wallowing in hardship to appreciate the disruptive impact of the situation. Parents can no longer afford even a single meal a day, and children are wasting away. When we visited Rann in Kalabarge local government area of Borno State recently on the sponsorship of the United Nations United Nations OCHA , what we saw was quite disturbing. The number of malnourished children in the community is alarming. A lot of families in the community can barely feed once a day. Parents depend on handouts for their survival and that of their children. The situation is projected to worsen during this period of raining season when #food supply is low. By October, an estimated 700,000 #children will suffer from acute #malnutrition while another 230,000 children will suffer #severelyacutemalnutrition in Borno State, Adamawa (state) and Yobe state alone. This requires the urgent attention and intervention of the Federal, States and local governments. Between 2023 and 2024, People in Need helped over 65,500 people in #Yemen's Lahj governorate to improve their #water access and reduce the impact of #malnutrition on their health, especially for their children.   💧 🌱Thanks to funds from Alliance2015 partner Welthungerhilfe (WHH) and the Czech Development Agency - CzechAid, most households in the targeted villages are now connected to the public water network with sufficient access for drinking, cooking and personal hygiene. Households also increased their outtake of water for livelihood activities to strengthen their capacity to generate income and react to unforeseen situations further.   👩🏽⚕️ We also addressed water issues for the main hospital in Lahj Governorate, which serves over 120,000 people and can now screen for malnutrition and treat referred patients.   🧒🏽 This school year, 4,370 students and teachers can access quality water and sanitation facilities, and schools reported significantly lower dropout rates.  #YemenCantWait

Child malnutrition is a big problem in Cambodia. We know this from personal experience when we visit schools with Hile Teuk Kampuchea (HTK) to teach water safety and some of the kids complain about being hungry. Recent statistics show that about 24% of children under five years old are malnourished. This means they don’t get enough healthy food, which can lead to serious health issues. In some rural areas, the situation is even worse, with 17% of children being stunted (meaning they are shorter than they should be for their age) and about 2% being wasted (meaning they are dangerously thin). Many people in Cambodia live on less than $4.15 a day, which shows there’s a big gap between the rich and the poor. #MalnutritionAwarenessWeek
