Icon of Selflessness, Simplicity and Honesty I once had the privilege of meeting the great Abdul Sattar Edhi at his humble residence in Karachi. As I stepped into his modest home, I was struck by the simplicity of this extraordinary man who, without any government support or backing from the country's ruling elite, had established the vast Edhi Foundation—a beacon of hope and compassion for millions. Unlike the billionaires and politicians who often seek recognition for their contributions, Edhi Sahab’s commitment was purely selfless, driven by his unwavering dedication to serve humanity. His life was a testament to the power of humility, hard work, and an unyielding sense of duty to the marginalized and neglected sections of society. Meeting him in person was not just inspiring; it was a reminder of the profound impact that one person can have when guided by empathy and selflessness. During our conversation, I asked him if he believed Pakistan needed more Abdul Sattar Edhis to support the poor and neglected. His response left me astounded and contemplative. He said with remarkable humility, "Nadeem, pray to Allah Pak that the conditions which led to the creation of Abdul Sattar Edhi may vanish." This answer was profound, revealing his wish for a society where no one would need to rise as a savior because there would be no suffering or neglect in the first place. His words left me in a deep state of reflection, questioning whether such a transformation could ever occur in a country burdened by debt and trapped in a cycle of financial dependency.
