No matter how talented their players, every successful team engages in regular training to sharpen their skills, behaviors, and beliefs. If you agree that "banking is a team sport", then why are you not regularly training as a team? No successful team simply hires talented players and then just expects them to win a championship. So why do we do that in banking? The secret to achieving extraordinary success is not to rely on the talent of a few individuals, but to train together as a team and share success stories and best practices. I encourage you to meet weekly as a team and coach / train each other on a particular skill that can help you win more. Don't simply discuss wins and losses. Part II of what I've learned since being in my position over the last year or so. 6. I enjoy business banking far more than I realized. Helping a business entity and viewing it as a living organism is such a cool way to see businesses. 7. Flexibility is vital in management. 8. If you're willing to clean a parking lot, cover the teller line, or simply make sure the fridge is clean in a break room your employees and colleagues will respect you more. 9. Keeping a branch running takes a lot of work. I knew this before. But it takes a lot of team work. If one person is out, someone often has to step up and fill the gap. 10. Things often go in a way you don't want or expect. How you respond can determine how the team succeeds.

What you should always give away for free to have a healthy business? Credit! And, no, this is not a financial post. :) Give credit away where ever, whenever you can. Look for opportunities to note when your team has supported you well, even when you’ve done the bulk of the work. And accolade them when they have spearheaded the work and succeeding or gained a learning with a fast fail.
