Source: Clinical proteomics This article discusses the challenges of diagnosing amyloidosis, a disease characterized by the accumulation of amyloid protein fibrils in tissues. The current diagnostic methods involve immunohistochemistry and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The study proposes the use of Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization-Mass Spectrometry Imaging (MALDI-MSI) combined with Trapped Ion Mobility Spectrometry for improved subtyping of amyloidosis. The article also explores variations in data acquisition parameters and the use of different search methods for enhanced amyloid protein identification.

What are the limitations of current preclinical models of the retina? 1. Due to physiological differences, animal models are not representative of the phenotype of the human retina. 2. Human retinal explants have a limited window of use and tissue availability is a challenge. 3. Primary cells and cell lines of single retinal cell types do not mimic the cell-cell interactions of the complex tissue of origin. 4.
