My personal view: 1. This video reminds me of an incident involving an old supermarket building in Petaling Jaya, constructed in 1974. It collapsed during demolition work to make way for a new structure, resulting in the tragic loss of seven Indonesian workers and causing injuries to several others. 2. The incident is believed to have occurred due to excessive rooftop loads during demolition, leading to the building's collapse. Images from Google Images show around eight excavators, some with pneumatic breakers and others with normal buckets during the collapse. 3. The engineer consultant involved in the demolition work neglected to account for the weight of the machinery equipment and the capacity of the existing building structure to bear such a load, as well as the impact of vibrations. They could have chosen an alternative demolition method that requires fewer machinery and equipment, ultimately lowering the risk rating in the HIRARC and making the process safer. 4. Referring to photos from Google Images, it becomes apparent that the collapsed building structure did not feature beams connected to the concrete columns. This observation leads me to assume that the building is constructed with a special structure, specifically utilizing post-tension slab technology. 5. The complexity or uniqueness of special structures necessitates a demolition team with vast experience, meticulous planning, and specialized methods to ensure the safe demolishing of the existing building structure. It is crucial to select and document the appropriate demolition method and sequence of work before initiating the project. The guidance for this process comes from a well-prepared demolition plan and a risk assessment conducted by a competent person. 6. Post-tensioned concrete slabs need careful removal due to stored potential energy. Ensuring structural stability during tendon removal involves erecting temporary supports. The demolition team must review all related documentation, including as-built drawings, project progress reports, and Engineer's Instructions (E.I.). 7. Before and during demolition work, assessing concrete and tendon conditions is vital. This includes visual inspections, identifying deviations, and testing in representative areas. Measuring humidity within tendon sheathing and analyzing contaminants is crucial. A comprehensive evaluation involves removing, inspecting, and testing tendons with continuous monitoring of tendon tension. 8. By implementing appropriate control measures, the safety of the contractor's workers can be ensured, concurrently safeguarding the well-being of surrounding residents. Following the incident, the Malaysian government introduced the Malaysian Standard - MS 2318:2012: Demolition of Buildings - Code of Practice (first revision) to regulate and guide demolition work. Flat slab puncture refers to a failure mode that can occur in reinforced concrete flat slabs when concentrated loads cause localized punching shear stresses to exceed the capacity of the slab. This results in the res ca formation of a "punching shear cone" in the slab, jeopardizing its structural integrity. #engineering #technology #structure #structuralengineering #civilengineering #construction_project #Bauingenieurwesen #Konstruktion #Bauleitung #Bauüberwachung #Bauvorhaben #Ausführung #Bewehrung ##Bauteil #punching #shear 🎥 Pro Level Civil Engineering

🏗️ Essential Tips for Pre-Tensioning & Post-Tensioning in Civil Construction Throughout my journey in civil construction, I’ve learned that effective pre-tensioning and post-tensioning are crucial for achieving structural excellence. Here are some key considerations to keep in mind: 1️⃣ Thorough Design Review: Ensure your design calculations for tensioning forces are accurate. Small errors can lead to significant structural issues. 2️⃣ Material Selection: Use high-grade steel tendons and quality concrete to enhance the durability and performance of your structure. 3️⃣ Correct Tensioning Techniques: Follow the specified procedures for tensioning and ensure consistency throughout the process to avoid any uneven stress distribution. 4️⃣ Regular Monitoring: Implement continuous monitoring and regular inspections during the tensioning process to catch any potential problems early. 5️⃣ Safety Protocols: Always prioritize safety by training your team on tensioning procedures and maintaining a secure work environment. These practices are essential for the long-term success of any project involving tensioned concrete. Shutter failure in construction Particularly in concrete formwork, can lead to significant structural and safety issues. Here are some common causes of shutter failure: 1.Inadequate Design or Poor Engineering Insufficient Strength Incorrect Load Calculations 2.Poor Quality Materials Substandard Materials Deterioration 3.Improper Assembly and Installation Inadequate Bracing Incorrect Alignment Loose Connections 4.Overloading Excessive Concrete Pouring Additional Loads 5.Improper Handling and Storage Damage During Handling Exposure to Elements 6.Inadequate Supervision and Inspection Lack of Quality Control Inadequate Monitoring 7.Excessive Vibration and External Forces Vibration from Pouring External Forces: Wind, accidental impact, or seismic 8.Improper Curing Practices Premature Removal Uncontrolled Pressure Release 9.Human Error Lack of Experience Neglecting Safety Protocols Addressing these issues requires careful planning, proper design, and adherence to construction standards to ensure the formwork can withstand the stresses it will encounter during the construction process 🚀 Knowledge can only be volunteered it cannot be conscripted 📌 If you're passionate about Construction Management and Civil Engineering, follow me and hit that 🔔 on my profile for insights, tips, and valuable content! 💪🏆 🎥Credit : Respective Owners Disclaimer: I do not intend to infringe on any copyrights.
