Punctate keratitis is a pervasive eye disorder that occurs more often in summer. Punctate keratitis is a disorder that causes damage to the cells of the corneal epithelium (the membrane that covers the external part of the cornea): the sun's ultraviolet rays, reflected by surfaces in conditions of high illumination, damage the DNA of these cells. Young and old, no one is excluded. In particular, you must pay attention: • Those who go by boat or to the mountains for an excursion on the glaciers. • Who reads for a long time by the sea. Those affected feel the sensation of a foreign body in the eye, almost as if it were sand. It is important to remember that the symptoms are not simultaneous with exposure to the sun: the first symptoms, in fact, can appear even hours later. What to avoid? • Remain without protection and therefore sunglasses. • Do not read for too long, as this activity tends to reduce your blink rate, making you even more susceptible to exposure keratitis. Punctate keratitis, when it occurs, can be very dangerous: if it appears when you are alone on a boat or in the middle of an excursion on the glaciers, for example, you risk not being able to keep your eyes open, and at that point getting back inside becomes difficult. A patient suffering from punctate keratitis is easily recognizable. In fact, the specialist, if he observes his eyes with the aid of a slit lamp, detects the presence of countless grayish dots on his cornea. The most effective treatment combines artificial tears with cortisone. The latter should be taken 2/3 times a day for 2/3 days at most, in order to minimize the problem. As a form of prevention, ready-made glasses are available for reading at close range with photochromic lenses that darken when exposed to the sun.

Rabbi Cantor Risa Askin's weekly Torah message. Parasha – Tazria. Seeing People For Who They Are I have chronic illnesses: Migraines, Occipital Neuralgia and Trigeminal Neuralgia. I will tell you shortly why I share this about myself. This week, we read Parashat Tazria, next week Metzora. In these portions, we concentrate on physicality, what makes up the human body. We learn how sometimes our illnesses can create great difficulties and how our medical doctors can assist us in our care. In Tazria-Metzora the medical care came from our Ritual Leaders, the Cohanim. What stands out in these portions is how those with Tzara-at, a skin condition, which many mistakenly believe to be leprosy, were medically treated. In the Torah, the Cohanim were responsible for the diagnosis, and the healing process. During the healing process, the patients would have to go into quarantine and their loved ones could not see their them until completely healed. The Cohanim was rightly concerned about the population as well as the patient, but were they treated as a whole person or was only the illness treated? In 1964, Abraham Joshua Heschel, a Polish born American Rabbi and Scholar, delivered a paper entitled “The Patient as a Person” at the annual convention of the American Medical Association. He later published it as a chapter in a book called, “The Insecurity of Freedom, Essays on Human Existence.” This remarkable (and brief) statement of principles for healthcare reminds both patients and doctors that they need to “see” each other: I believe that is what has gotten me this far. My doctors are seeing ME, and I am seeing THEM as whole people. They are concerned about me as a “person,” not just someone to throw medications at and send for tests. My doctors understand that I want to continue doing what I love to do: teach, learn, conduct services, officiate life cycle events, and just continue to live the best life I can live with my family and friends, congregants, and families. In fact, they all encourage me to continue what I was called to do. This is taking care of the whole person. May we all continue to be treated “wholly,”, and let us say amen. Shabbat Shalom. #parashattazria #doctors #cohanim #Skinconditions #abrahamjoshuaheschel #beingseen #cohanim #seeingme #SeeingYou

Achalasia cardia is a limited disorder of the esophagus . This disorder causes the esophageal muscle not contract properly, due to which the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) is unable to relax properly. The esophagus is a tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach. The muscle layer of the esophagus contracts to move the food down from throat to the stomach. The esophagus has two sphincters. One sphincter lies at the upper end of the esophagus and another at the lower end of the esophagus . The UES relax when the food has to enter esophagus from the throat, and the LES relaxes when food has to enter the stomach from the esophagus. Rest of times both these sphincters remain closed. In achalasia cardia, the esophageal muscles don’t contract properly. As a result, the swallowed food doesn’t move down into the stomach.

“Rediscover being a doctor” 15 to 20 mg cortisol secreted in normal stress of human beings. 150 mg under maximum stress. A study shows Surgeons anaethetist in India exceed this 150 mg frequently in a day... That is 10 to 15 times more than the Military colonel in battle field. Doctors in Tamil Nadu Government service frequently cross 80mg per day and 150 mg at least twice a month... All of us know the adverse effects of cortisol in our body. “Survey : How happy & satisfied are doctors” Total 1781 responses were received & following were the observation: # Only 37.7% of doctors were satisfied # Only 45.1% doctor’s got complete 7 hr. sleep # 82% doctors felt stressed out # 54.5% doctors had high blood pressure # 38.6% doctors had diabetes # 61.6% doctors had a fear of violence, while giving consultation. # 56.5% doctors had thought of hiring security in their clinic premises. # Only 8% doctors had 1st choice for their children to become doctor # 75.6% doctors had anxiety. # 26.4% doctors indulged in social drinking. # 45.4% doctors were afraid of possible violence # 24.6% doctors were afraid of being sued. # 13.5% doctors were afraid for criminal prosecution “Doctors die early. National IMA study showed that Indian doctors die 10 year earlier than the normal age and Kerala study showed that they died even 13 years earlier.” If one doctor dies, to make another doctor we need 30 years and have to spend crores of public money, it is people's money. In case a doctor dies, his unavailable services during those 30 years many common people may die. Common people are safe only if they exist. “Do you know” ? @ that when treating you of your viral fever your doctor gets exposed to the virus? @ that when doing surgery your doctor gets cuts and pricks that may transmit disease from patient to doctor? @ that when your doctor dresses your diabetic foot, they feel nauseated by smell and do not feel like eating for the whole day? @ that when during a delivery the patient often passes urine and motion that may spills on the doctor? @ that even though your doctor's own child might be suffering from fever, he has to leave him to others as he has to go and treat others while his own child suffers? @ that for every delivery case your doctor has to attend at least 10 calls throughout night.. And then be back to work early next day? @ that when a neurosurgeon operates for 12 hours continuously he loses track of time and forgets to eat or sleep? @ that a cardiologist is exposed to dangerous levels of radiation in the lab? @ that the life span of doctors is 10 years less than public average because of stress? With their level of intelligence they could earn more money if that have been the sole motive, had they chosen other professions.. Please respect a doctor because he is the FIRST and LAST person you see in your life. 🙏
