“Is all this work even making a difference?” If you’re an entrepreneur, you’ve asked that question before. Sure, we want to make a living and pay the bills but entrepreneurship is too hard to only be about income. It’s about a desire to leave a lasting mark on the world, whether socially or spiritually. It’s just not always clear how our day-to-day operations actually contribute to any kind of impact. Ardent Mentoring (led by my buddies Ryan King and Steve Soars) is hosting "Measuring Social and Spiritual Impact: Three Simple Questions to Set Yourself Up for Success," on March 14 and it’s sure to be encouraging and insightful for any of us wrestling with the question of how we’re making an impact on the world as entrepreneurs. Sometimes, we need to build a new framework (or dust off an old one we’ve neglected) on what success looks like. You can register now: https://lnkd.in/gubyTitd

Yes, it’s true. 75% of all #entrepreneurs and 81% of established business owners co-own and/or co-manage their businesses with family members. And, success in #FamilyBusiness isn’t defined by following exactly in your family’s footsteps, or leaving the business entirely. Rather, it’s about creating value together by tapping into each family member’s respective interests and talents. Lauri Union, founding executive director of the Bertarelli Institute for Family Entrepreneurship at Babson College, shares advice through detailed anecdotes on how you can apply this approach in Entrepreneur Media. https://lnkd.in/d4Du4K9X #FamilyEntrepreneurship

Strategy Consultant | International Development | Dalberg | McKinsey Next Generation of Women Leaders 2019
When we met Peter Nduati for tea, we thought it would be just that—tea. Instead, we walked into a masterclass. By the time the cups were empty, we’d been schooled in entrepreneurship, resilience, and failure. Then we hit record, and what did we get? Another masterclass. Peter isn’t just a serial entrepreneur. He’s a force, moving through life like he’s collecting lessons, not trophies. Twenty businesses, five sectors, and he still talks about failure like it’s an old friend. But that’s what makes him different. He doesn't run from setbacks—he embraces them, knowing each misstep brings him closer to something bigger. Peter took a bold leap in 2000 while everyone else was playing it safe. He transformed health insurance in East Africa, covering maternity, gynecological conditions, and even HIV/AIDS when no one else would. For Peter, it wasn’t about chasing profits—it was about solving problems that others wouldn’t touch. And through it all, he stays grounded. When we asked how he wants to be remembered, he didn’t talk about his businesses. He said, "A great dad." That’s Peter's essence—building legacies at home and in the business world. The real takeaway? Peter doesn’t wait for the perfect plan. He starts, fails, learns, and moves. Every. Single. Time. Watch the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/dSAC3uCQ
What happens when your life’s purpose shifts from business success to making a difference? Peter Nduati’s story isn’t just about entrepreneurship, it’s about resilience, family, and a deep-rooted desire to give back. Raised in a family of entrepreneurs, Peter learned the art of business from his father, a butcher. But his greatest accomplishment, he says, isn’t the nine businesses he’s built across multiple industries or surviving four different political regimes in Africa. No, his proudest title is father. In this episode of Conversations & Plugs, Peter reveals the human side of entrepreneurship. He speaks candidly about the lessons learned from his failures, including a cosmetic manufacturing business that lost him millions and an airline venture hit hard by COVID. But instead of focusing on these setbacks, Peter shares how they taught him resilience and the importance of pivoting in business. He talks about how COVID forced him to reimagine his business strategy and adapt to a hybrid model. It’s this kind of thinking that’s kept him relevant in a rapidly changing world. But perhaps the most striking takeaway from our conversation is Peter’s purpose-driven approach. His success isn’t measured in numbers alone, but by the lives he’s touched, whether it's his children or the people he mentors. It’s a lesson for all of us: true wealth is built not just in what you achieve, but in how you help others along the way.
