Hiring Product Designers, User Researchers, Service Designers etc shouldn't be difficult. What is difficult? Creating a good design value proposition. If you're struggling to scale your team, reflect on your current value proposition and how appealing it is to the industry: 👉 Does your opportunity have purpose? 👉 Do you have a strong design culture? 👉 Is design represented 'at the table'? 👉 Are people able to work in a way that’s productive for them? 👉 How have your current team progressed since joining? 👉 What is your strategy for learning and development? 👉 How are people compensated for their skills? Don't settle for having a company-wide EVP for everyone. Product Designers could be attracted to something different to a Software Engineer, Data Scientist, Business Development Manager or Customer Service Associate. If you apply a one size fits all approach to scaling, don't expect to be able to attract and hire design talent easily.

Empowering organizations to drive real, and positive change through UX and design research insights.
As we navigate challenging times, I am genuinely heartened by the positive collaboration and support I've witnessed on LinkedIn. Despite recent layoffs, seeing professionals come together to share insights, offer assistance, and uplift one another is a testament to the strength of our community. The UX industry's resilience and commitment to collective growth are truly inspiring. Let's continue to foster a spirit of collaboration, share opportunities, and champion each other's success. Together, we can overcome challenges and build a stronger professional network. I'll continue to share job postings as I see them! hashtag #UXjobs

Hi friends, I’m seeking my next role and I’d love to hear about things that you think might be a good match! Introductions and suggestions on roles or organizations are very welcome, and re-shares of this post are lovely too. I’m looking for: – Leading with a hands-on approach in User Experience. I like being the first UX Researcher on the ground who builds the team and practice area, or helping an existing team be effective and thrive through organizational growth and change. – Solving problems that help people, at an organization with clear mission and values. I’ve adored government work for this, and am open to climate or other industries if our goals align. – Remote or hybrid role near DC. I’m open to some travel, but not relocation. What I bring: – Cultivating and nurturing strong relationships, both with stakeholders/ partners/ customers and team members. – My superpower is drawing out and translating between perspectives in order to build trust and gain strategic alignment. – Detangling complexity into clear plans, especially when technology and systems have constraints. – Managing healthy teams. I actively support team members’ professional growth, and encourage the evolution of culture and communication that works for the people and the organization. If your organization or somewhere you know might be a good match, let's chat!

This is great guidance. A caveat to this is recognizing that when hiring folks without specific experience, a manager needs to invest--at least in the short term--in training up that new hire. Without that, even a very smart person can falter. Employees need to be set up to win! #investinpeople #setuptowin #intelligenceoverexperience
Some perspective 🔎 for anyone switching careers, especially in tech... "Most people, when they are hiring for a role, look for people who have excelled in that role before. Peruse virtually any job listing and one of the top criteria for a position will be relevant experience. If the job is for chief widget designer, it's a given that high on the list of requirements with be five to ten years of widget design and a degree from Widget U. 🎓 Favoring specialization over intelligence is exactly wrong, especially in high tech. 😡 ➡ The world is changing so fast across every industry and endeavor that it's a given the role for which you're hiring is going to change. ➡ Yesterday's widget will be obsolete tomorrow, and hiring a specialist in such a dynamic environment can backfire. ➡ A specialist bring an inherent bias to solving problems that spawns from the very expertise that is his putative advantage, and may be threatened by a new type of solution that requires new expertise. A smart generalist doesn't have bias, so is free to survey the wide range of solutions and gravitate to the best one." ➡ TL;DR - Intelligence matters more. The right company will recognize it. The advice was written by Google's former CEO, Eric Schmidt, and SVP of Product, @Jonathan Rosenberg in the book, "How Google Works". Some pretty timeless advice for employees and companies alike. So true - Intelligence matters more than specialization in tech hiring. Read the post for why.
