This year, the Mobile Gender Gap Report 2024 provides new data on women’s and men’s perceptions of whether mobile internet is equally important for both genders. ♀♂ In 11 of the 12 survey countries, 70% to 92% of those who are aware of mobile internet believe that it is equally important for men and women, with little difference by gender in most cases. However, among those who do not think this, a greater proportion believe that it is more important for men to use mobile internet. New data shows that the gender gap in mobile internet in low- and middle-income countries narrowed slightly from 19% in 2022 to 15% in 2023. The latest GSMA Mobile Gender Gap report launched today reveals that in low- and middle-income countries, women are now 15% less likely than men to use mobile internet. Of the 785 million women who are not using it, around 60% live in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. Women in these regions are still the least likely to use mobile internet compared to men, with gender gaps of 31% and 32%, respectively.
