In the coming years, we will see an acceleration of major trends: such as electrification, sustainable energy transition, supply chain resilience and automation. At the center of these trends will be mobile connectivity. A mobile-first world is going to demand high-performance, differentiated networks in order to enable new use cases.   To take this next step in digitalization, we must go beyond the "best effort" connectivity of 4G and unleash the power of 5G. Forward-thinking governments can play a pivotal role in shaping policies that pave the way for progress. For example, Singapore and India – have already developed advanced digitalization plans built on 5G.   By contrast, Europe is at a crossroads. The region has fallen behind in economic growth and job creation especially in tech/digital sectors. A key driver on this is underinvested network infrastructure, as well as to lead with regulation. It’s time to change this, or Europe risks being an industrial museum without digital companies. That broadband is key to economic development should come as no surprise what I appreciated with this article was the acknowledgement that best effort networks which are the cornerstone of much of our economy are not sufficient for the next steps. I believe the most interesting impacts will be in emerging economies like Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and others that have the opportunity to leap frog established economies, provided that the correct investments are made.
