The Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-24), currently being hosted in Uganda from 1st to 4th July, marks a pivotal moment for the country's ICT sector. This prestigious event gathers approximately 800 delegates, including leading telecommunication regulators, policymakers, and industry leaders from around the world. Organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), GSR-24 focuses on advancing regulatory practices in the digital age under the theme 'Regulation for Impact'. This event not only underscores Uganda's emergence as a leader in ICT within Eastern Africa but also highlights its commitment to fostering global dialogue on crucial issues such as consumer empowerment, cybersecurity, and digital transformation. What are the opportunities ? 🤔 - Economic Growth: Leveraging ICT advancements can stimulate economic growth through enhanced digital services and improved business efficiencies. - Knowledge Exchange: Learning from global best practices and experiences can help Uganda refine its regulatory frameworks and policies. - Innovation Hub: Establishing Uganda as an innovation hub for ICTs could attract foreign investment and spur local technological innovation. What are the Challenges 🤔 ? Infrastructure Challenges : Ensuring broadband access and ICT affordability remains a challenge, hindering widespread digital adoption across Uganda. - Resource Constraints : Limited resources may restrict Uganda's ability to implement ambitious ICT initiatives discussed during the symposium. - Skills Gap : A shortage of skilled personnel in advanced technologies like AI and robotics may slow down the pace of technological advancements Hosting GSR-24 is a significant milestone for Uganda, aligning with its strategy to leverage ICT for economic growth and societal advancement. The symposium provides a platform to address key challenges and capitalize on opportunities in digital transformation. Moving forward, Uganda must focus on bridging infrastructure gaps, enhancing regulatory frameworks, and building human capital to fully realize the benefits of ICT innovation. As an up and coming technological innovations hub in the region, it is indeed pertinent for all industry professionals and related agencies (in Uganda's ICT sector)to continue engaging stakeholders both locally and internationally to streamline and promote seamless connectivity and productivity (sustainably) in the ever growing (and evolving) national and global digital landscape. #ITUGSR #DigitalTransformation #UgandaICT #DigitalInfrastructure #DigitalEconomy

The Local Government Association (LGA) has released a crucial guideline on digital transformation in local government. Emphasizing 3 pivotal missions, it outlines how these can be facilitated by 6 common enablers and 6 good practice principles. 🚀 The missions are clear: - Digitally enabled councils delivering inclusive services - Digitally empowered residents thriving in a digital world - Digitally equipped places supporting a connected, healthy community The Principles focus on inclusivity, user-centric design, and security, while the Enablers stress connectivity, capability, and collaboration. Digital transformation in Local Government is rapidly evolving, both internally and in collaboration with the NHS and Adult Social Care. I'm currently collaborating with several Local Authorities with ambitious digital strategies. Share your thoughts on this guideline and let's explore how we can support your transformation journey. #lga #digitaltransformation #localgovernment Starfish Search Local government digitalisation framework: Missions, principles and enablers | Local Government Association

Yesterday our Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs Maarit Palovirta took part in the round-table discussion on the ‘Digital Networks Act’ at the V Conference on Competition and Regulation in the Telecommunications Market organised by IESE Business School in Barcelona: 📌 The #DigitalNetworksAct and the upcoming review of the EECC is a perfect occasion to reform the legislative framework for telecom & the connectivity ecosystem. 📌 The White Paper is a stepping stone for a more favourable policy environment in 4 fields: - Tackling scale (consolidation, #DigitalSingleMarket) - Deregulation (phasing out ex-ante to rely on ex-post); - Spectrum policy; - A level playing field for all -European and global- players in the connectivity ecosystem. 📌 We need urgent action once the new EU mandate starts.
