🚨 Cyber-attacks Could Trigger the ANZUS Treaty Between Australia and New Zealand 🌏 👇 Here are the details of this important statement 👇 🔍 The Prime Ministers of Australia and New Zealand, Anthony Albanese and Chris Luxon, reaffirmed today in Canberra that a "sufficiently severe" cyber-attack could trigger a joint defense response under the ANZUS Treaty. 💻 Both leaders emphasized the growing importance of cyberspace in cooperation to tackle cyber-attacks, highlighting that modern warfare is increasingly shifting into cyberspace. 🛡️ The ANZUS Treaty, originally signed in 1951, establishes that an attack in the Pacific region on any of the parties will be considered a threat to the peace and security of all, and a collective response will be made to address the common danger. ⚠️ A cyber-attack could have an impact as devastating as a traditional attack, putting the operation of an entire society at risk. 💡 This approach underscores the need to adapt to the new realities of cyber warfare and the importance of international collaboration to protect critical infrastructures. 📍 9News

The recent bipartisan Commission on the National Defense Strategy Report highlights critical threats facing the U.S. and the world, with key recommendations for Special Operations Forces (SOF). We agree with several of these, especially the need for faster acquisition processes and increased focus on regions like Africa and Latin America, where SOF can act as a critical force multiplier. We’ve long advocated against cuts to USASOC, particularly as the Middle East remains a hotspot for extremist threats. As the Commission states, preserving and refocusing SOF is vital in today’s strategic landscape. We stand by these recommendations.
