Georgetown County Government’s Post

#Congratulations to Kevin Stimpson of the Public Services Department, who was recently recognized as Georgetown County Employee of the Quarter for the second Quarter of 2024. Kevin is a Senior Construction Project Manager with the Public Works and Construction Services Division. He has worked for the County for 8 years, having started in 2016 as an entry-level heavy equipment operator. He quickly demonstrated talents that warranted greater responsibility. By his third year, he was promoted to Traffic Control Specialist and then to Transportation Specialist. In this role, he handled road paving and hardship petitions, managed the County Transportation Committee, and oversaw road construction projects. His professionalism and ability to communicate effectively with both contractors and residents ensured smooth project execution and fostered community trust. In 2022, Kevin advanced to Senior Construction Project Manager, focusing on all construction and drainage projects within the Department of Public Services. Despite the challenge of an unfilled Transportation Specialist position, Kevin managed to perform the duties of both roles for nearly a year, training the new specialist hired in January of this year. Kevin embodies the results and benefits of promoting from within, said Public Services Director Ray Funnye. Over the last year and a half, Kevin has successfully completed more than 20 projects, including the following roads: Indian Hut, James/Miller, Maidenbush, Corner Loop/Belladonna, Tony Dr., Trey Ave, Arapaho/Navajo, and Royal Pines/Simone. In the 2025 fiscal year, Kevin is set to supervise road construction and drainage projects with a combined value of approximately $7 million. This includes overseeing $2 million in construction projects and $5 million in drainage projects, highlighting the significant trust and responsibility placed in him. Additionally, Kevin's contributions were pivotal in the recent American Public Works Association re-accreditation process, which assesses adherence to industry best practices. His efforts in this rigorous evaluation demonstrate his commitment to excellence and continuous improvement. Throughout his tenure, Kevin has consistently exhibited a professional demeanor, facilitating effective communication and trust within the Public Services Department. His role as a liaison between the county, contractors, and citizens has been marked by his ability to handle delicate situations with sensitivity and professionalism. Kevin is a vital member of the Public Services Department. His progression over the past 8 years underscores his capability and willingness to take on new roles and responsibilities, significantly advancing both the Department of Public Service and the Division of Public Works and Construction Services.
