Summarised from this article: The digital age has led to overregulation and the ELD, making the industry less enjoyable, according to former truck driver Croke. The challenges include traffic, road conditions, construction, delays, and parking issues. Jennifer Gabel, founder of Construct Your Health, believes that the emphasis on college degrees has led to a lack of appreciation for the profession. Drivers are increasingly taking risks and hurrying on the roads, leading to disrespectful behaviour towards other truckers, a trend that was previously unheard of. The long-haul truck driver position is expected to experience a shortage in the coming years as the perception of the job shifts from a career to a job. The hard job of driving is a complex and evolving profession, with many drivers seeking a more home-based lifestyle and not seeing it as a profession, resulting in a lack of passion and a distinct industry compared to the Hollywood era. A professional driver's passion and dedication are lacking in today's industry, with the physical steering and other challenges being more challenging.
