The Institute for Security Analysis is delighted to launch a series of discussions on the gaps in Armenia's diplomatic, security, and defense strategies during the 44-day war. Senior Researcher, Eduard Abrahamyan, and myself will present key findings from our two-year study, providing critical insights into the challenges facing Armenia’s defense and air defense systems. This research serves as the foundation for an upcoming book publication. The first discussion will focus on the selection of methodology, the research findings, and identifying gaps to guide future studies.

I want to congratulate my friend and colleague Jan K. Gleiman (Ken) and his co-authors on completing their book “Winning Without Fighting: Irregular Warfare and Strategic Competition in the 21st Century”. This book highlights the strategic importance of defending against and employing irregular warfare. While this decade has seen the re-emergence of large-scale combat, these conflicts began in the “grey zone” with irregular warfare. Detecting and deterring such activities can prevent the sorts of hybrid wars that are becoming common today. The authors of this book do well what so many military authors struggle to do: they define the changing characteristics of this style of warfare while grounding it in war's unchanging nature. https://lnkd.in/e3_ehDKt

Ignoring serious mistakes when brought to light is beyond conduct unbecoming an officer. Covering up serious mistakes that can easily become fatal mistakes if conflicts turn kinetic, is a grave mistake. However, repentance & active assistance in averting catastrophe are worthy of pardons. We were better off while preoccupied with the Soviet Union, the Evil Empire. USSR did not have the powerful advantage of stealth, because we were vigilant. In a way, those were better days as that was before many of our people stuck their heads in the sand for a coma nap! Naval Post Graduate School's Operations Research/Decision Science (ORSA) program with a stellar reputation is coveted by fast-tracking military officers in functional area FA49. Starting during WWII in the British military, it has been an indispensable field in the US Military. In simple terms, Decision Science involves math, probability and statistics modeling & simulation for high-stakes strategic and operational planning & decision-making in virtually all aspects & levels of well-run military and business organizations. It's essential to get these models right, as wrong & negligent modeling will spell disaster for military campaigns, save by the grace of God. Plainly put, relying on such models would be akin to sending a team on a mission with (say) 10K rounds of blanks which they believe to be lethal ammunition. Navy allows some contractors to self-audit & self-certify models similar to the convoluted network diagram (attached here to convey their impenetrability, intractability & nonsensical formulation).
