I’ve been thinking about the bonds and connections created through #sharedexperience. On #ANZAC day, those serving or who have served in the armed forces gather today to reflect on their experiences and those who preceded them in various displays of commemoration. That bond of shared experience is on display to the public observers at dawn services, and centotaphs in capital and regional cities, in tiny towns and district halls and through our screens. Those observing together are also sharing an experience and creating a connection. Shared experiences come in all shapes and sizes. Many as mundane as travelling on the same school bus for six years or playing for the same footy and netball club or experiencing the generosity of special elders in your home town. Each is experience creates a bond and connection that ensures. Ever wonder why it’s so easy to pick up a conversation with a colleague or a school mate decades later- the bond of shared experience is the answer. Many studies have pondered and proved the mechanisms creating connection through shared experience including a recent one from Dartmouth College, Hannover, New Hampshire in the US which includes a review of previous studies (link in comments). ANZAC Day is also our wedding anniversary- 16 years ago we created a shared experience for those we cared about the most from our aging parents to our young nieces and nephews and our broad range of friends and family. It was also a pretty nice experience for us! This pondering got me thinking about how much I love creating the opportunity for others to connect or facilitating the opportunity that’s been created by others. Whether it’s organising drinks in our garden, a silly competition st the golf club or delivering a keynote in which the audience gets to share an experience, it truly is one of my favourite things. What shared experiences have created connection for you? How can you create opportunities for others to connect through shared experience? #connection #bonds #sharedexperience #groundedthinking

I clearly have a soft spot for 1) Tennis, and 2) commencement addresses... So here's another great mix of both. First of all, the ⚡ENERGY⚡ of this Lady is ridiculous! 🎓 Great lessons from this talk and from the Values BJK embodies: 👉🏼 Empathy and reassurance - Always start by putting yourself in others' shoes. Understand their experience and their circumstances. Let them know, regardless, "we are together", "we are a team". 👉🏼 Equality - Understanding one's privilege and others' harder circumstances can make you decide be a champion for equality. 👉🏼 Opportunity and responsibility - Being in a position to tell a story and change the World presents a great opportunity, but also comes with enormous responsibility. 👉🏼 Girls and boys - Girls are taught to be perfect and hired by performance. Men are taught to be brave and hired for potential. Our thinking and actions have to change. No one is perfect and no one can be brave all the time. Everyone should be hired not just on performance, but also on potential. 👉🏼 Strenghts and weaknesses - Practice your strength and continue to improve on your weaknesses. Your strength is what makes you, hold on to it. Mistakes are not failures, rather feedback. 👉🏼 Be yourself - Actively listen. Pay attention. Be curious. Be nimble. Don't take things personally. Never lose sight of your dream. Take advantage of opportunities. Be authentic. Don't let others define you. You define yourself. 👉🏼 You never really understand inclusion unless you've been excluded. 👉🏼 Path to inner and outer success - Relationships are everything (with yourself, your loved ones, family, faith, friends). Keep learning and keep learning how to learn. Be your own problem solver and an innovator. https://lnkd.in/g439sv8w

Our Founder, Lewis Hamilton, launched The Hamilton Commission in 2020 to research the underrepresentation of Black people in UK motorsport. One of the key findings, alongside the report’s 10 recommendations, was the disproportionate rate of school exclusions for students from Black Caribbean backgrounds. Mission 44 was formed out of these recommendations, with a specific focus on building a more inclusive education system that tackles the root causes of school exclusion, and where every young person feels like they belong. Hear from Lewis on how his own experience of exclusion has led to the launch of our Nothing Happens in Isolation campaign. Noah, the candidate of Star Academy 2024 in France! Noah is one of the candidates of this season of the famous musical show, and he attracted the attention of the public with his unique voice and personality. He is one of the students who evolve throughout the adventure, receiving singing and dancing lessons and learning to improve themselves in front of the general public. In my opinion, the performances of this singer go well beyond what we saw tonight. He has a great career ahead of him, the juries, the public will decide. HOW TO GET SELECTED TO REPRESENT YOUR COUNTRY - a lesson in how to turn an idea into reality You don't need "ability" (I'm proof) all you need is a dash of self belief, some persistence, and the willingness to take "action." The nuttiest ideas become real when you have the courage to dream big and take the necessary persistent action to make your dreams come true. As a young kid growing up, Mick's dream was to play for Australia. But he quickly discovered desire is no substitute for ability, of which he had none. Then finally, at the age of 42, after successive failures at cricket, rugby league, rugby union, surf lifesaving and lawn bowls, he discovers the game of sudoku. Also a lesson in how to become an outstanding public speaker

Incredibly proud of this team and these superstar athletes! 💙 This incredible group of Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) athletes, along with members of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Texas (LETR) representing the Dallas Police Department, recently competed in their first regional Topgolf competition together....and, everyone brought home medals!! What makes this even more remarkable is that DPD is the first LETR agency in Texas to establish a Unified LETR Delegation-- and now they're starting a movement. Other law enforcement agencies are starting to follow suit, working to create more opportunities for SOTX athletes in a Unified manner. It's amazing to see how this initiative is spreading and providing a platform for inclusion and support for athletes across the state. Despite the incredibly tough week leading into this Topgolf competition having lost one of their own and with two other officers injured, these DPD officers still showed up with courage and resilience. They supported their athlete partners, cheered them on, encouraged them, and competed alongside them. I can't imagine what they're going through, but I hope spending some time with the team, even for just a few hours, gave these officers some comfort. LETR members are some of the bravest people I know, and it's been an honor to watch this idea of starting an LETR Unified Delegation come to life & a privilege to have helped make it a reality for the Dallas Police Department. None of this would have happened if it wasn't for an officer who came to me and asked this question, "What more can we do for the athletes in our community, and do it in a Unified way?" INCLUSION MATTERS, and being part of a group that celebrates and supports everyone-- regardless of ability-- makes all the difference! If you are a LEO, Fire Rescue member, active duty or retired military member reading this, and want to get involved in the LETR movement with Special Olympics Texas...connect with me, send me a message and I'll be glad to help you and your department out! #inclusionmatters #LETR #SOTX #PlayUnified #LiveUnified #lawenforcement #firerescue #military

It's been a busy time, and an exciting one, for our client Athletes.org (AO), a fast-growing players association for college athletes. Last month, University of Notre Dame invited AO to campus, where AO’s leadership talked with current ND athletes across several sports over a two-day window. They discussed the implications of the House v. NCAA settlement proposal and other issues related to the historic labor movement in college sports. Then AO was mentioned in the House settlement proposal itself. The plaintiffs attorneys wrote: "To assist in obtaining ongoing information from college athletes during the Injunctive Settlement Term...Class Counsel will call upon established college player advocacy organizations to provide input on the views of class members, including from Athletes.Org led by Jim Cavale...” On Friday, Jim Cavale appeared on SiriusXM to talk with Rick Neuheisel and Chris Childers about the House settlement, revenue sharing more broadly, AO’s meetings with Notre Dame players, and more. The insightful interview begins at the 28:00 mark in the link below. #sportsbiz #sports #sportsindustry #sportsbusiness #media #news #journalism #NIL #labor #money #finance #economics #marketing #sportsmarketing #consulting #communications #linkedinsports #strategiccommunications #mediarelations #branding #collegesanduniversities #socialimpact #linkedin https://lnkd.in/g8N-d9B3
