As #CTEMonth comes to a close, we enjoyed this opinion piece from The 74 Media, exploring how CTE can help young people reach their potential—especially as many students and families want many pathways to meaningful careers. The piece notes that CTE programs are associated with increased student engagement, reduced drop-out rates, and that students with a CTE concentration could be more likely to have higher median annual earnings 8 years post-graduation than peers who won't. "But while CTE and other types of career education programs have expanded, they often lack a connection to comprehensive K-12 career education frameworks that begin with early education and go through high school. For example, two-thirds of high schoolers and graduates say they would have benefited from more career exploration in school." https://lnkd.in/gMVaa24G

Founder of EDLINKS® & EDLINKS® Press: Educating The New Humanity™ to Awaken and Lift Humanity to See Good Do Better | 2xTEDx Speaker
February is National Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month. CTE provides opportunities for students to flourish and find pathways for a successful, rewarding, and meaningful life—for them and society at large. It’s no longer “vocational education” It’s “Career Technical Education” A little history: “Federal support for CTE began with the 1927 Smith-Hughes National Vocational Education Act. Its legislative update in the 2006 Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act replaced the term ‘vocational education’ with ‘career and technical education.’” The attached article provides great insight and understanding to the benefits of CTE. #EDLINKS #EducatingTheNewHumanity to #AwakenAndLiftHumanity to #SeeGoodDoBetter

Miranda Reilly started at a local community college right out of high school, but she had to find a full-time job and she wasn’t sure how a degree could help her. Now that she’s been in the working world for a while, she’s completing UD’s online associate’s degree. “I struggled with school when I was younger because I didn’t see the point. Now, I have my priorities and I know that continuing my education will help me reach my goals. Trish has been my ‘bible’ — she has helped me from transferring credits to selecting the program that was right for me. I will definitely get my bachelor’s degree," Miranda says. “I would encourage anyone who thinks it’s too late for them to get a degree to try. I finally understand that everything happens for a reason and my education means so much more to me now.” The UD PCS Access Center serves: > Current UD Continuing Education non-degree and Graduate College non-degree students > Students interested in an undergraduate or graduate degree at UD > Returning UD students > Prospective transfer students > Academically dismissed students > High school students > Individuals seeking career exploration/counseling > UD employees > Delaware residents 60 or older interested in completing an undergraduate or graduate program tuition-free To learn more, visit us at https://lnkd.in/eiMcuGzn If you have a success story that you would like to share with us, email continuing-ed@udel.edu. #womenchangemakers #womenempowerment #womenineducation #womenshistorymonth #lifelonglearning #lifelonglearner #professionaldevelopment #associatedegree

Students who choose the Alabama Community College System allow us to chart the paths that make their dreams reality. Many students want to be able to support themselves and their families. Others want to experience student life. Some of them want to know what it’s like to be in a college class that is small enough for the instructor to know their name. Many know we are the most affordable higher education option in Alabama, with many skills training classes being offered for free; they want an opportunity to improve their employment outlook within their current careers. Others want to look their children in the eyes and remind them that if they can graduate college, then their children can, too. At Alabama’s community colleges, it’s more than just education. It’s a way to live your mission…in your community, for your version of success, on your time. #RealLifeEducation #ACCSuccess at #WorkInAlabama #StudentSuccess #WorkforceDevelopment
