🔍 Analysis: The prime minister had pledged during the election campaign to set out a pathway to raising the defence budget from 2.3% of national income to 2.5% as he stressed Labour could be trusted to keep Britain safe. However, Starmer surprised civil servants inside the Ministry of Defence this week by putting off the plan to outline billions more pounds for the department and tying the decision into a major strategic defence review. While a spending review might make sense in order to work out a timeline, a much-needed modernisation budget is vital to ensure the Armed Forces are fit for purpose
Why PM’s caution over spending is a high-risk strategy

There are several high-profile investigations focused on the Government of Canada and Contractors across government sectors. Both parties are being held accountable via necessary formal and journalistic investigations. As a democracy, we need to ensure our tax dollars work for the citizenry versus citizens working to maximize how many tax dollars they can take. However, we must be clear that these are a few #badapples. Contractors are an essential capacity add to Government projects, delivering subject matter expertise, speed and agility, and access to unique resources. We need to ensure professional services and procurement contracts continue to move forward and are not mired by these recent actions by a few. There is an immense amount of good work being done by businesses working for Canada that deliver critical value effectively, efficiently, and with pride. Quick Take: Submarine Contract Amendment Raises Eyebrows The UK Ministry of Defence is facing scrutiny for awarding a £125 million contract amendment to Devonport Royal Dockyard Limited without a competitive bidding process. The amendment, deemed necessary for "technical reasons," raises concerns about transparency and potential cost implications for taxpayers. Critics argue that awarding such a substantial contract amendment without open competition raises red flags. The lack of transparency makes it difficult to assess whether taxpayers are getting the best value for their money. Additionally, limiting the bidding process stifles innovation and potentially excludes other capable companies from contributing to this vital national security project. #Defence #Submarines #Procurement #Transparency #UKGovernment #TaxpayerMoney #Contracts #Competition #NationalSecurity
