Flu vaccine might be less effective this year, new CDC report suggests | Vaccine effectiveness was 34.5% against hospitalization, according to interim estimates from a new article published by the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, among high-risk groups like young children, people with preexisting conditions and older adults. That means, vaccinated people in those groups were 34.5% less likely than unvaccinated people to get sick enough to go to the hospital. (CBC) Last year, the CDC's report had estimated vaccine effectiveness in South America was 51.9% against hospitalization among at-risk groups. A study by the same group looking at data from 2013 to 2017 estimated effectiveness was around 43% for fully vaccinated young children and 41% for older adults. These data come from a research network coordinated by the Pan American Health Organization, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. The biggest drop in effectiveness this year may be the result of fewer cases from "A(H1N1)pdm09," a strain that has spread since the H1N1 swine flu pandemic in 2009. South Africa is expecting a second batch of the mpox treatment, Tecovirimat, in the next few weeks amid an expected increase in cases as contact-tracing intensifies. Mpox is a viral infection that causes a rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy and swollen glands (lymph nodes). But the disease is preventable and treatment is available for mild and severe cases. Tecovirimat is reserved for people with severe complications of mpox, while vaccination against mpox is only recommended for those at risk of the disease. https://lnkd.in/em7GSegi #africa #health #healthcare #medicines #vaccines #mpoxvaccine #safemedicines #safevaccines #publichealth #qualitymedicines #counterfeitedmedicines #antivirals #medicinesforafrica #medicines4africa #leniashwenda #southafrica

The WHO prequalified a single-dose oral cholera vaccine (OCV). Cholera outbreaks are active in conflict zones that have caused population displacement into crowded camps that lack clean water and sanitation. Several African countries and Haiti are experiencing outbreaks, resulting in increasing rapid spreading and deaths. The WHO and its partner NGOs expect the single-dose vaccine manufacture rate to allow Global Stockpile replenishment. #OSINT #WHO #Cholera #Vaccinations #Monday https://lnkd.in/gKmJzBVk

nstonline #HEALTH: Mpox could spread rapidly in vulnerable populations "MALAYSIANS should remain vigilant about mpox as there are concerns about the disease's potential to spread rapidly, especially in populations with low immunity due to the cessation of smallpox vaccination programmes. This raises questions about the vulnerability of populations, such as in Malaysia, where there is currently no widespread immunity against orthopoxviruses, says molecular virologist Associate Professor Dr Vinod Balasubramaniam. With the monkeypox virus (MPXV), transmission occurs through several primary routes, with human-to-human transmission being the most significant, says Vinod, who's also leader of infection and immunity research strength at the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia. Transmission typically involves direct contact with the lesions or bodily fluids of an infected person, particularly during intimate interactions, as well as respiratory droplets during prolonged face-to-face contact." #monashuniversity #MonashLens #mpoxoutbreak #mpox #publichealthemergency #pandemic Monash University Malaysia Monash University Monash Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences NIBM Malaysia Malaysia Genome and Vaccine Institute YSN -ASM Academy of Sciences Malaysia World Health Organization (WHO) Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Daily Mail Australia Daily Mail News Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) News South China Morning Post SCMP ChinaDaily.com.cn Australian Research Council Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry Of Health, Malaysia (KKM) Chang Lih Kang Science News Magazine Nature Magazine Australian Science Media Centre Scimex.org - Breaking science news for Australia and New Zealand Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Africa CDC https://lnkd.in/g58c-5Xc

#Dengue/#Chikungunya We developed a protocol (like for #COVID19) to cure them in max. 48 hrs. It's not complex, it contains #PAD 2/4 inhibitors, blocks #PKC pathways and the associated receptors. Check levels of Citrullinated #histones (which never show up in our protocol) in those with falling platelet levels. Address the root cause i.e poor #sanitation. No wonder new #Polio cases are emerging. Vaccination is hardly of any benefit, with a poor immunity and environment. #MERS-COV can be cured in less than 36 hrs. #viraldiseases
