Last week whilst attending the ongoing UVU Africa training as part of our (Zone01 Kisumu) selection to the Africa Tech Startup Forum, I learnt something profound that I have wanted to share with my audience since then. The session was focused on Communication Skills. At the tail end of the session, one of the participants Nana Kofi Sarpong (Hendrix) posed a question to the facilitator of the day Akosua Annobil; and he asked about what he should do or say when he walks into places where he feels that he really has not so much to give. Picture yourself in a meeting with top business executives and you are yet to master the ropes of the game . . . what do you bring to the table in such a setup? More of an imposter syndrome question. I loved Akosua Annobil's response. She said that: "There are rooms where you walk into to learn and educate yourself because at that point you might not have much to give". She went on, "Just show up and be visible but if you get a chance to speak, bravely mention what you do because you do not know who is listening". This left an imprint in me; because how many times do we allow self-doubt to hinder our progress? Not anymore, as even showing up is in itself a big step to success. #MondayMotivation #FortuneFavorsTheBold

During our transnational project meeting, held on January 8 and 9 in Oslo, representatives from Sweden, Finland, and Denmark convened to deliberate on the second phase of the Nordic Integration Project. 🇸🇪🇫🇮🇩🇰 The primary objectives of our meeting were to collectively assess the achieved results and fine-tune methodologies and tools for implementation in the upcoming mentoring cycle. This phase will involve personalized follow-up mentoring and feature two courses focusing on Nordic culture and entrepreneurship. The session proved exceptionally productive, fostering a deeper understanding among all partners. Valuable insights were exchanged, and ideas were discussed to enhance our collaborative efforts in realizing the project’s overarching goal – to establish the Nordics as the most sustainable region for social integration by the year 2030. 🎯🍃 Following our meeting, we have decided to implement an extensive dissemination plan. This strategy aims to inclusively involve other stakeholders aligned with our integration objectives, including educational institutions, government entities, and migrant support organizations. Through this initiative we aim to expand our collaborative network, fostering greater participation and collective support integration efforts. Registrations for the second cycle are now open, check out https://lnkd.in/dWRAwAd4 ! 💥 #NordicIntegration #MigrantIntegration #NorthernSolidarity #IntegrationForAll #TogetherInNordics #InclusionInNordics #UnitedNordics #NordicCommunity

I had the honour to participate in a meeting at the #IT-Cluster Mitteldeutschland and #Wirtschaftsförderung Stadt Leipzig with H.E. Winnie Chibesakunda, ambassador of #Zambia in Germany and Michael Woitag, CEO of levelbuild AG. I gained great hands-on insights about employing IT professionals in Africa. My key learnings: ✅ founding a legal business entity in an African partner country remains a challenge even though government and investment authorities are supportive. Peer-to-peer learning between European companies with similar objectives will provide a few valuable short cuts to procedures ✅ employing #talents in #Africa has many advantages: professionals work in roughly the same time zones, have a great mind set and are willing to take on tasks (like working in night shifts) that many Germans will not agree to ✅ mentorship, cultural exchange and traineeships in the European headquaters help massively to overcome cultural differences ✅ giving employees responsibilty is a great motivation everywhere. This is true for Africa as well as for Europe. It´s proven to be advantageous to delegate entire work packages to IT professionals in Zambia ✅ management however is different in different cultural settings. It needs appropriate means and methods for each social environment ✅ levelbuild uses the potential of skilled IT workforce in Africa to grow in Europe. Transfering money for salaries and securing stable power supply are challenges today; they will be overcome soon thanks to incredible #fintech startups and innovative power generation Can´t wait to see more companies following the lead of levelbuild and Zambia in this quest! How amazing it is that a question as simple as ‘What’s Next?’ can either open you up to an unending array of ideas and possibilities or on the flip side leave you as blank as possible. Below is a journey I have decided to take which is beautifully tied to what I refer to as my Next…….. And oh, if you’re thinking about what my answer is, my next is to enjoy every bit of the 6 weeks journey 🤭 #alxaccepted #alxafrica

Made, not born Steve Jobs, like the other greats, wasn't a born CEO. By his own admission, he was a bad manager to start with. Before starting Today Africa I knew that I was not a good speaker, good manager, or good marketer. Because I've made huge mistakes. Bad deals. Mismanagement. But I have taken it upon myself to learn from the best. Study the organizations and people I admire. This will help me build "Today Africa" frameworks, systems, and processes. As someone relatively unknown the goal is to study from the best and learn from them. If I wait to be perfect before starting Today Africa then it would only be a fantasy. P.S.: This January, I will be spending some time with founders from across Africa to share the story behind their businesses. #nigeria #africa #todayafrica #africanstories #africanentrepreneur #storytelling

Beyond B-BBEE, true macro transformation demands holistic, collaborative systems thinking. Corporate South Africa has a role to play by sponsoring jobs for youth in under-capitalised communities, fostering economic, social, and environmental stability. Skills development providers and training programmes break the experience trap, making the youth three times more employable. Many global nations employ similar strategies; Australia, Germany, and the UK incentivise hiring through innovative schemes. As we address South Africa's complex challenges, immediate interventions, supported by corporate partners, are vital. Let us work together to achieve true transformation even beyond B-BBEE and Employment Equity requirements! #DHTransform #Transformation
