Last week, I was a finalist in the Next Fairway Find Pitch competition hosted by Fairway Market and Naturally New York. While I didn't win, it was an incredible experience, especially for my first pitch competition. It was a warm reception from the Fairway team with great questions and dialogue.
Here are my key tips from a pitch newbie.
1. Practice, practice, practice with your advisors and anyone who will give you constructive feedback.
2. Bring extra samples and product (there was an additional judge).
3. Start with a compelling story. Who doesn't love a good story.
4. Mention any sales stats and be sure to weave in how you will support the launch (I shared how I did 6 store demos that week and believe demos are key to trial and conversion).
5. Network with other founders competing. They are just like YOU! I learned so much from my fellow founders and am looking forward to staying connected.
6. Last, but not least - don't sweat it. Before every job interview, I've told myself "Here goes nothing." That is what I said before my pitch and will continue to do. You give it your all, but whatever happens, happens for a reason. Have fun and use it as a learning experience.
Hope this helps anyone starting on their pitching journey and hopefully, one day you'll find Bake Me Healthy on the shelves of Fairway.
Special thanks to those who helped me prep for this - Jill Frechtman Saira Malhotra Rachel Robins Mark Scoville Lauren Doyle Anthony Fabbo Allison Ball Charlie Berkinshaw!
