I know women in the workplace have come along way but there is still a much bigger gap that many don’t see. This isn’t even taking into account the industries like engineering and construction that have a low retention rate of women. Where this really plays out in our society is if women become single parents. It is a much longer catch up for women to get a head financially, save for retirement or even buy property. There is still a long way to go. How do we in business level the playing field? https://lnkd.in/gbrJ4wuW

As we celebrate Women's History Month, it's crucial to highlight the remarkable contributions women make to economic development, especially here in #Loudoun. Women have been instrumental in shaping the economic landscape, not just locally but globally. Women play a pivotal role in the workforce across various sectors. Their earnings not only support their families but also fuel the county's economic growth. According to recent data, women have been steadily increasing their presence in the workforce and making significant strides in closing the wage gap, yet despite these advancements, challenges persist. Women still face barriers such as pay inequity, limited access to leadership positions, and balancing work with caregiving responsibilities. Addressing these challenges is not just a matter of fairness but also essential for maximizing Loudoun County's economic potential. Empowering women economically is not just the right thing to do; it's also smart economics. Studies consistently show that investing in women's education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship leads to higher productivity, increased GDP, and stronger communities. When women thrive economically, everyone benefits. As we honor the trailblazing women who have paved the way for progress, let's support women's economic empowerment and celebrate the achievements of women everywhere and work towards a future where all women have the opportunity to thrive and succeed. #WomensHistoryMonth #LoudounPossible 📷: United States Census Bureau, Women's Earning by Occupation https://hubs.li/Q02q0lLw0

I have been a "childless" professional by conscious choice (made together with my partner) for well over two decades. Yet I always lobbied for a more level professional playing field for working moms, who I thought deserved the same opportunity to succeed as anyone else. (My mom was a single mom who started med school and became a doctor when I was 6, and the field was definitely not level for either her or her THREE female classmates -- only one of which had kids at home -- whether single or married.) Then, when I was working in a demanding setting as a young lawyer, I was on an internal committee discussing part-time options for women attorneys with children that might allow them to spend time at home with their kids and still progress in top-level legal careers. At the time, I was taking care of a sick elder relative so I was supportive of the effort for several reasons. My personal situation eventually became incompatible with my job, and I was told the position and I "were no longer a good fit" after previously all positive performance reviews ("real" part-time options weren't available at that employer until a decade later). So, early on, I understood on a personal level that, whether or not women have actual children at home, they usually carry much more of their household's "communal" needs in most traditional partnerships. By "communal needs," I mean the things that keep the household partnership running at a high operational level, which are critical if either or both partners have demanding careers. And this means not just child care, but elder care, pet care, meal planning care, travel care, household purchasing/billing care, household cleaning/appearance/ maintenance care, social calendar care, extended family relationship care, etc. And some studies indicate that this communal care burden falls heavily on women even when they are also the primary breadwinners! Women have always had the additional job of maintaining the life blood of our communities, not just biologically, but in many other ways. So I'm glad to see all of this discussion at a national level because the decision about whether or not to have children is an important one for everyone to discuss and debate. I personally haven't heard of or seen any examples of women with children resenting or giving their work to women without children. In fact, the only person I've heard talking about "childless cat ladies" is J.D. Vance. But there may be women out there doing this. Hopefully this will help folks see why they should push for change in their employers' work assignment processes or work-life balance priorities instead of trying to pile on to one of their "childless cat lady" colleague's work load. Chances are she's got enough on her plate already.
Women without kids are quickly becoming a large demographic in America. Yet, outdated biases and stereotypes still persist — the “childless cat lady” trope is just the latest example. This comes as a sharp reminder that, no matter how much women achieve, society still feels the need to critique our choices, especially when it comes to family planning. Let’s explore how biases against women who do not have children impact women in the workplace.

I am a strategic executive who drives changes through positive disruption. I create an environment where every voice matters and the fatigue of change is diminished.
This isn’t about politics, this is about equality. Women deserve the right to make choices that impact their lives and their careers, and to be supported and not judged for those choices. I chose to have children, but I also support those who chose not to, those who cannot, those who have lost children, and those who aren’t sure yet. You do you! You are not defined by whether or not you have children. You are defined by the impact you make on the world. We will not be divided into groups based on arbitrary societal expectations. #childlesscatlady #equalityforwomen #womensupportingwomen

Today, we celebrate the contributions of all workers, but there's a critical issue we need to address—the representation of women in finance has been steadily declining since 2019. Between 2019 and 2023, 1.1% of women—the equivalent of 55,175 professionals—left the finance industry. While this may seem like a small drop, its impact is profound. COVID-19 exposed a harsh truth: the workplace was never designed with working mothers in mind. This led many women, especially in finance, to leave their careers. But we believe it doesn't have to be this way. At the Lotus Women's Institute, we are dedicated to reshaping the future of work. We envision a world where women, particularly mothers, are not just present but empowered to excel. Together, we can reverse this trend and create a more inclusive, supportive environment for all women. https://lnkd.in/gRCD27Ht #WealthAdvisorCoaching #FinancialEmpowerment #LotusWomensInstitute #CareerGoals #ProfessionalDevelopment #WomenInFinance #FinancialRecruiting #WomenLeaders #WomenInBusiness #AnitaKnotts #WomenSupportingWomen #LotusImpact
