Setting the right initial #GoogleAds budget can be hard. Here's an approach that works for me: Conduct your basic keyword research.  (#AI can really help with this) Punch your basic keyword list into the ‘Discover new keywords’ section of the keyword planner. Scan through the additional keywords and combine any additional terms that are a good fit. Punch all these keywords back into the ‘Get search volume and forecasts’. Now, you can work out the average CPC, which means you can figure out a max spend estimate. Remember, this is just an estimate, not gospel, and does not include display traffic. Let's say your end figure is £10,000 worth of traffic per month. I'd halve this number for a solid starting budget. Should you be using Broad Match keywords in your campaigns? The answer: *drum roll* it depends. Broad match can be amazing, and in many cases will outperform Phrase/Exact. But only if your campaigns have enough data and you're managing them correctly. As with anything that relies more on machine learning, there needs to be conversions coming through for the algorithm to optimise for. If you're not hitting 30/40 conversions per month in the campaigns then Google won't have enough data to know which terms to show for. Smaller campaigns or lower budgets will still generally get a better return from using Phrase/Exact. Also, you need to be frequently reviewing your search term reports and adding any irrelevant terms as negatives. Don't give Google free reign to spend your money. Finally, offline conversion tracking and utilizing customer lists will help your campaigns to optimise much quicker than without. In a wrestle with Google right now for Speak Ai 😂 Went from 62 clicks per day Sat, Sept 10th, 2022 to hitting a peak of 2.5K clicks per day (~60K per month and a 3,932% increase 🤯 ) in June 2023. Some pretty deep programmatic page generation drove this incredible growth. However, I got a little too aggressive later in 2023 and used a system to automatically index pages on Google Search Console. I didn't cap that indexing and it forced the indexing of all those pages leading to "index bloat" with thin, low-quality content then impacting the site quality. I spent the holidays optimizing pages, removing pages, and doing personalized redirections. We are starting to see some stabilization and trend up. It appears there may have been a larger Google update that impacted this. This has been a hilarious, complex, challenging, enlightening and skill-building part of the journey. Why do I share this? I don't know. 🤔 Are you giving Google enough data to use smart bidding? A crucial factor that often goes under the radar is the minimum conversion volume threshold required for these algorithms to perform optimally. Smart Bidding uses machine learning to optimize bids in real-time, aiming to maximize conversions. For this technology to accurately predict and convert, it requires a decent amount of conversion data. Google suggests a minimum threshold of at least 15 conversions in the last 30 days as a starting point, but more is generally better (I have noticed 30 minimum conversions in the last 30 days is most effective) , especially for more complex strategies like Target CPA or ROAS. Why does this matter? The volume of conversion data directly impacts the algorithm's learning capability, accuracy, and, consequently, the success of your bidding strategy.
